We are looking for an Engineering Team Leader to join our busy team. The Team Leader will ensure assets are available as required and are operating within the standard cost model, whilst minimising engineering related, unplanned downtime. This requires effective management of the team to ensure the right skills are in place commensurate to machinery and equipment deployed.
Role Responsibilities:
1. Create a non-threatening culture within your team that encourages feedback and acts on it.
2. Support the Engineering Manager and Special Projects Director on engineering improvement projects as required.
3. Ensure preventative maintenance plans are robust and make suggestions for improvement where gaps are identified.
4. Manage stock of engineering spares, replacement parts, and consumables to ensure we have what we need to maintain operations.
5. Mitigate additional labour costs by prioritising tasks in order of business impact.
6. Ability to thrive in a pressured environment, with limited direction and broad responsibilities.
7. Take responsibility for engineering metrics (ERD, MTBF, MTTR, PPM adherence) and share with the wider business on a daily basis using the MDI model.
8. Promote quality to your team as a key performance measure and ensure quality standards are maintained and improved where scope exists.
9. Conduct regular appraisals/performance reviews for team members using the laid down procedure.
10. Ensure adequate measures are in place to manage possible foreign body contamination or asset damage created by misuse of hand tools, machine parts, screws, bearings, etc. used by your team on a daily basis.
11. Represent your team at the daily MDI process and ensure one of your team is sufficiently trained to do so in your absence.
12. Ensure that all Company policies, procedures, and systems are consistently adhered to at all times.
13. Align L&D activity with the needs of the business to ensure consistency, as identified through training needs analysis and a thorough understanding of the business plan.
14. Adopt a people-first mentality by promoting safe working practices as a prerequisite to all activity and taking prompt and decisive action in ‘near miss/accident investigation and wherever breaches occur.
15. Support/enhance GMP standards in areas where your team are deployed.
16. Continually review the company skills matrix system and use this as a motivational tool for skills development and succession planning.
17. Continually review processes and line layouts to ensure that these support present and future business needs.
18. Continually review your team’s shift patterns to align these with forecasted sales and fluctuations driven by seasonal and promotional activity.
19. Consistently challenge existing practices and behaviours where these deviate from the organisation’s existing processes and values.
20. Manage your team appropriately and in accordance with their principal terms and conditions of employment and procedures outlined within the Company handbook.
21. Manage staff rotas, absence, and OT working and keep your line manager informed of the detail.
22. Take responsibility for the shift handover meeting and modify as necessary to improve its effectiveness.
23. Demonstrate an open, democratic, and supportive behaviour, consistent with the organisational culture.
24. Deputise for the Engineering Manager in his absence to maintain performance.
25. Undertake any other duties, projects or responsibilities as required by your Line manager.
Success Criteria:
The Engineering Team Leader will be measured against the reliability of production assets at all sites where manufacturing activities are undertaken. Products will be manufactured to the quality standards expected by our customers and within the timescales requested. The scope of the responsibilities is primarily with the present situation (the day job) but also succession planning and improvement projects for future performance.
