Job Description
A Senior/Associate Flood Risk Specialist with extensive experience. The role is not tied to a specific location and the correct candidate will be able to be based at any of the Narro offices - Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Inverness, Stirling, or Newcastle. The successful applicant would support the work of the whole Practice, across all technical teams and offices.
General Requirements and Attributes for Role
* A degree in a relevant field.
* Actively training towards chartered membership of a professional institution (or already achieved).
* Ability to manage projects with modest supervision.
* Extensive experience in Flood Risk and Hydrology.
* In-depth experience and current working knowledge of analysis software essential.
* Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
* Proficiency in MS Office.
* Commitment to personal development and training.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
* Management - of multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring timely completion and exceeding client expectations.
* Resourcing and Work Planning - Collate information on a weekly basis.
* Design - high-quality flood risk assessments and hydrological studies to support planning applications for projects in Scotland, England and the rest of the UK.
* Training - take responsibility for your own training and personal development.
* Health & Safety - ensure you are aware of the risks associated with the nature of your work, especially when working away from the office.
* Commercial Awareness - understand the need for projects to be profitable and take responsibility for monitoring the fee on jobs you are responsible for. Prepare fee quotations and fee claims when required where the scope of work has changed or additional services have been instructed.
General Duties and Responsibilities
* Assist with multidisciplinary bids.
* Specify, commission and administer sub-contractor survey work.
* Contribute to site & project feasibility exercises and planning report.
* Grow and lead the Flood Risk & Hydrology team, including recruiting and line-managing suitable staff.
* Seek to win independent flood risk work.
* Take part in business development activities.
* Prepare a weekly workload report.
* Communicate effectively either verbally or by preparing letters and reports as required.
* Monitor financial performance/profitability of projects.
* Maintain continuing professional development and to keep abreast of technical developments and legislation.
* Help the company to be profitable and raise profile with external clients through key relationships.
* Be involved in and contribute to decisions affecting projects and the Practice.
* Report to Regional Director on all technical and welfare issues as necessary and on Project Owner reports.
* Work individually and as a project team member efficiently, professionally and in a helpful manner.
* For projects which you are responsible for, ensure that all fees due are invoiced and ensure that invoices are raised as soon as the work has been completed.
Project Owner
* To carry out or discuss conceptual/feasibility design of projects.
* To plan, supervise and manage projects to ensure a quality service to clients.
* Ensure that Health & Safety aspects of designs are properly considered for compliance with CDM Regulations.
* To monitor financial performance/profitability of project.
