An opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic, skilled and motivated person to join the nursing leadership team in the Paediatric Respiratory unit (L38) at Leeds Children's Hospital. You must be a qualified Children's Nurse with significant relevant experience and must also hold an intensive care qualification, SLIPs or equivalent and a leadership and management qualification.
L38 is a 16 bedded paediatric respiratory and medical ward caring for a variety of medical and specialty conditions in children including LTV.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for a motivated, enthusiastic and dynamic individual who can ensure the consistent delivery of high-quality patient-centered care to the patients nursed within paediatric medicine. The successful candidate will be expected to work clinically within the multi-disciplinary team, maintain high standards of evidence-based practice while supporting staff on a shift-by-shift basis and provide clinical leadership in decision making.
The successful candidate will have excellent communication and organizational skills. They must work with The Leeds Way and Trust values at the centre of their care, for both patients and colleagues. They must be able to demonstrate current and ongoing personal development and evidence of their contribution to change management/service development within their current post.
A good understanding of current issues in healthcare both locally and nationally, involvement in improving patient safety, risk and waste reduction and the development of others and general support for peers, junior and senior colleagues are expected.
Effective service delivery requires staff to be flexible and be able to work full rotating shift patterns. Candidates should have current NMC registration and extensive experience as a Band 5 within paediatrics. Job responsibilities
The jobholder will play an essential role assisting the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse with the 24-hour continuing responsibility for the effective and efficient management of the ward/department. They will contribute to the provision of professional, clinical, managerial leadership and supervision for the nursing team. The jobholder is responsible for helping to develop and maintain a ward or department's philosophy that has the patient at the centre of compassionate safe and quality care delivery. By assisting with managing the administrative and financial aspects of the ward, the jobholder will support the cost-effective use of resources.
As an experienced nurse the jobholder will assist in coordinating activities on the ward or department ensuring effective communication is maintained at all times, providing support to qualified and unqualified nurses within the ward/dept. He/she will play a key role in the assessment of patient care needs and the development, implementation and evaluation of programmes of care.
The jobholder will act as a role model, promoting quality evidence-based practice, developing the nursing team and ensuring effective management of the ward/department in the absence of the Senior Sister/Charge Nurse.
The jobholder must comply with the wearing of PPE as appropriate to the clinical situation - this may involve wearing face masks for a considerable length of time.
