About Us:
THE EXTRAORDINARY STORY OF THE POWER OF LISTENING
Regeneration, Economy and Planning in Westminster City Council is a world of extraordinary stories, where little things can have a huge impact on people’s lives.
Take Mitin, our Head of Estates Services. Mitin’s team is responsible for cleaning, gardening and bulk refuse removal across several housing estates where many of our residents require a greater degree of assistance. It’s not just about keeping our blocks and estates shipshape, it’s about human contact and letting residents know that we care.
Mitin’s team contribute to our Smart City commitment and make full use of new technology to help track and solve problems such as fly tipping and graffiti. But what many residents value most is his ability to listen. For example, when residents were telling him about carrying out gardening improvements and the positive impact that it has on their wellbeing, he and his team engaged with residents, working closely with them to give them garden areas they could be proud of and a vibrant community.
Mitin is immensely proud of the relationships he’s built with residents, not only because it helps them feel proud of where they live in a greener and cleaner city, but because it makes him proud of where he works.
The Role:
As Economic Growth Lead for Enterprise Spaces you can make your own powerful contribution to Westminster’s success.
You will lead on the delivery of Westminster’s Enterprise Space Programme, which is creating the space and conditions for start-ups and small business to thrive through affordable and supportive workspaces.
A core initial focus will be the delivery of two new creative workspaces in council-owned buildings, in Church Street and in North Paddington. With workspace operator partners on board, you will need to ensure the timely fitout and delivery of sites so they can be open as soon as possible to benefit communities.
You will also lead the partnership working with established spaces across the city, ensuring we can best support businesses within our spaces and increase opportunities for local people.
Your work will include the monitoring and reporting of outcomes from established spaces, and the scoping, feasibility and development of new affordable workspace projects. Liaising with our Planning Department and developers to secure and shape affordable workspaces, you’ll shape the future of our space support for businesses.
The role sits in our newly formed Economic Growth service, responsible for driving a thriving, inclusive economy by supporting businesses, fostering innovation, and shaping Westminster’s future through strategic partnerships.
To be a success in this exciting role you’ll have well developed knowledge of economic development services and relevant policies, proven programme management expertise, and experience of working with entrepreneurs and business owners to grow or scale businesses. It’s important that you possess a solid understanding of Westminster’s business landscape and growing sectors, a strong grasp of account and contract management, and a good awareness of the needs of businesses across different life cycle stages.
A creative and collaborative leader with the skills to foster team alignment, engagement and accountability, you’ll have the proven ability to lead and develop inclusive teams through mentoring, coaching and effective delegation. An analytical and creative problem-solver, you’ll also be ready to develop actionable strategies that incorporate diverse perspectives and stakeholder needs, including hard-to-reach groups.
It's vital that you have experience of delivering enterprise spaces, business incubation, accelerator, workspace, and/or start-up projects, and the skills to manage budgets that ensure good value for money. Committed to the principles of equity, diversity and inclusion, and capable of adapting positively to new challenges and opportunities, your strong decision-making and communication skills will see you inspiring and motivating everyone you work with.
