Role Overview
We have a number of roles available in the Front Office Risk & Controls Team which forms part of Deloitte’s Regulatory & Financial Risk Advisory Practice and is a centre of excellence, supporting the 1LOD of large global financial institutions in establishing effective governance, risk management and controls. We partner with firms undergoing risk or regulatory driven change, providing advisory and/or implementation support delivered by Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) specialising in front office supervision, trading control frameworks, electronic & algorithmic trading, booking models, regulatory remediation and enterprise risk management frameworks.
The Front Office Risk & Controls team wishes to recruit high calibre individuals, with skills and experience in the following disciplines:
• Risk Management of Electronic / Algorithmic trading activity – including regulatory standards across UK and EU regulators, and industry practice to control and oversight of E-trading
• Front office supervision frameworks – including typical supervisory controls, systems & tools and management information, including recent areas of regulatory scrutiny
• Trading control frameworks – including an understanding of the controls required to prevent or detect unauthorised or inappropriate trading, and experience of identifying weaknesses in controls frameworks or opportunities to optimise and automate.
• Booking models - understanding/ knowledge of the regulatory and financial efficiency constraints that impact the operating model, booking model and legal entity structure of banks, including the identification of opportunities to optimise and/or enhance governance and control arrangements
• Risk management frameworks – at the enterprise level, together with the additional considerations for Legal Entities (branches and subsidiaries) of global financial institutions
• Regulatory remediation – supporting banks with addressing regulatory changes or addressing the feedback/expectations of regulatory supervisors
• Regulatory adherence & change management – supporting financial services firms with managing the end-to-end regulatory journey, from horizon scanning to evidencing effective adherence through policies, procedures and controls
We encourage applicants who come from either consulting or industry backgrounds. Candidates with demonstrable practical application in any of the following areas are likely to be considered favourably:
• Previous advisory, consulting or internal project or programme experience in the financial services sector, particularly for global investment banks
• Demonstrable strong core consulting skills, including preparation of impactful presentation materials, managing bids / proposals / business cases, managing project financials
• Experience of supporting Chief Operating Officers, Chief Compliance Officers, Chief Controls Officers or Chief Risk Officers and their teams on risk and regulatory topics, with an ability to interpret and advise on the impact of regulatory change
• Ability to interpret and analyse large data sets related to trading activity – with confidence in providing insights from trend analysis, root cause analysis or risk concentrations
• Solid understanding of the core principles of risk management and governance for financial institutions, including a background in at least one of either financial or non-financial risks
The successful applicant will have responsibility for the following:
• Lead client projects by managing client relationships, developing the scope and engagement plan, managing team members, engagement financials, and overseeing the production of high-quality deliverables
• Working with a range of senior client stakeholders, and being seen as a subject matter expert within client organisations and by colleagues, developing and maintaining deep industry relationships and knowledge
• Leading proposals for new client opportunities, driving sales and marketing efforts for key propositions, and playing an integral role in industry and account teams
• Contributing to the development and growth of the practice by sharing knowledge, setting an example, and helping team members to develop through training and talent initiatives
• Co-ordinating internal practice development by participating in proposition, methodology and point of view development activities and supporting knowledge capture and sharing
• Establishing and building a network of contacts across Deloitte and peer networks within our clients
Your skills and professional experience
• Capital markets and/or wholesale banking knowledge and experience from previous role(s);
• Experience from a role related to the above specialisms in a bank or a consultancy firm;
• A strong understanding of front office activities and the ability to identify associated risks and mitigants;
• Strong analytical and project management skills with experience leading and working in multi-disciplinary teams to deliver on high-profile and complex transformation engagements in a fast-paced project environment;
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage a significant and demanding workload under pressure;
• Self-sufficient and proactive professional, with ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders;
• Ability to engage and influence senior stakeholders both internally and externally;
• The ability to communicate technical concepts clearly and concisely to non-technical audiences;
• Experience of developing junior staff and mentoring team members; and
• Ability to think creatively, generate innovative ideas, challenge the status quo and deliver effectively to ambitious requirements.
