Role
:- To provide expert guidance on database creation, monitoring, and maintenance, ensuring database recoverability, integrity, security, availability, and performance. Lead the identification, assessment, and implementation of new and upgraded database software.
We are looking for a SQL Database Administrator with experience managing and maintaining a large SQL database estate, ensuring high availability using Availability Groups and SQL clustering.
Responsibilities include routine database maintenance such as backup and recovery, index tuning, patching, and monitoring to ensure data accessibility, security, and protection from loss or corruption.
Work closely with support teams and external suppliers to assist with application upgrades and performance tuning.
Experience with SSAS, SSIS, SSRS, PowerShell, data warehousing, and ETL processes is desirable.
Knowledge of migrating on-premise SQL Server to Azure is advantageous.
Responsibilities:
1. Lead by example, behaving in line with the Police Code of Ethics, ensuring values and behavioral expectations are understood and considered in decision-making.
2. Provide analysis and guidance to Digital Policing support teams on database monitoring, management, and optimization; assist with problem investigation and automation.
3. Create and maintain records of database utilization and configurations to optimize costs.
4. Advise on database software upgrades and coordinate their implementation.
5. Define and ensure adherence to database security standards, proactively addressing security issues.
6. Lead database project delivery, advising on hardware specifications, disaster recovery, and documentation for handover.
7. Participate in system and user testing, tuning databases/applications for optimal performance.
8. Maintain data standards, including compliance with the Data Protection Act, and document procedures and definitions.
9. Manage data access permissions to enhance security and cyber readiness.
10. Develop and manage backup, recovery, and capacity management plans.
11. Ensure data preservation through regular backups and disaster recovery testing.
12. Provide expertise on leveraging data for Business Intelligence and Data Analytics to support policing and business activities.
