Position Overview:
The company is looking to expand its commercial department and is seeking an Assistant Quantity Surveyor to join the team. This is an excellent opportunity for a graduate with some previous work experience in quantity surveying or a related field. The successful candidate will be provided with strong support and training, with the potential to progress within the company.
As part of a dynamic commercial team of five, the Assistant Quantity Surveyor will play an essential role in supporting the company's fit-out projects while also gaining valuable hands-on experience in both Quantity Surveying and Estimating.
Key Responsibilities:
Assist Senior Quantity Surveyors: Support senior members of the team in all aspects of quantity surveying, including cost estimation, preparation of bills of quantities, and financial management of fit-out projects.
Estimating Duties: Work closely with the commercial team to assist in estimating costs for upcoming projects and bids.
Cost Control: Monitor and manage costs throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring projects remain within budget.
Contract Administration: Assist in preparing contract documents, managing subcontractor accounts, and ensuring contractual compliance.
Valuations & Variations: Prepare and submit valuations, track variations, and work on project final accounts.
Client Liaison: Maintain good working relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors, ensuring effective communication on all project aspects.
Site Visits: Occasionally travel to project sites to review progress, assess costs, and provide accurate reporting.
Collaboration: Work closely with project managers, site teams, and other departments to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Key Requirements:
Educational Background: A degree in Quantity Surveying or a related field.
Work Experience: Some previous experience in a Quantity Surveying or Estimating role (either through a placement, internship, or previous employment).
Driving License: Must hold a valid driving license and have access to a car for occasional travel to project sites.
Skills & Knowledge:
Strong numerical and analytical skills with attention to detail.
Understanding of construction contracts, commercial practices, and estimating.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Proficiency in using relevant industry software and MS Office.
