General Role Description
To provide specialist occupational health services aligned to the Council’s Workforce Strategy including health surveillance, health screening, pre-employment, counselling, occupational physician and physiotherapy services to the council and a range of external organisations.
Duties and Responsibilities
1. Provide an occupational health service for the council and external contracts by giving advice, guidance and support on work related health matters including suitability for employment, fitness to work and rehabilitation to the required professional standards in compliance with legislation and council policies.
2. Contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of effective and efficient health promotion activity for staff ensuring a high quality and value for money service.
3. Use clinical skills and knowledge highlighting areas of opportunity for improvements and developments that increase efficiency of the service and promotes a proactive approach to health promotion and ill health prevention.
4. Provide clinical and professional, advice and guidance to other clinical and non-clinical staff and foster collaborative partnerships with other services.
5. Liaise with the multidisciplinary team in and assist in planning and commissioning services.
6. Deliver health surveillance services and provide evaluation of effectiveness of interventions.
7. Lead and facilitate as delegated the development and implementation of workforce health and wellbeing service objectives.
8. Participate in the supervision of clinical nursing practice to ensure it is safe, effective and evidence based and lead in the development of clinical standards ensuring these are set, embedded and monitored in conjunction with the nurse manager.
Specialist Skills and Knowledge
Essential skills, knowledge and experience required to fulfil the role include, but are not limited to:
* A broad range of occupational health nursing experience including advising on complex issues working within a complex customer focused unionised environment.
* Diploma or degree in Occupational Health Nursing (or equivalent) and a minimum of 3 years post graduate experience.
* Track record of achievement as an occupational health nurse practitioner.
* In-depth knowledge and the ability to interpret and advise on occupational health issues.
* Experience of developing occupational health solutions, strategies, practice and procedures.
You must have:
* Post qualified experience.
* Enhanced DBS/Update service.
* References required for the last 5 years of employment.
