Detail
Job Title: Graduate Music Assistant
Hours of Work: Full time (Monday to Friday, with five Saturdays over the academic year), term time only
Reports to: Director of Music
Duration of post: 1-year, but with the potential for mutually agreed extension
The Graduate Music Assistant will play a key role in Eltham’s musical provision, supporting a Music Department with over 50 ensembles, approximately 60 concerts/events each year, and two-thirds of all pupils learning at least one instrument.
Eltham College has a strong musical reputation, with many pupils attending junior conservatoires and leavers pursuing academic music or instrumental study at university. Our flagship Symphony Orchestra performs in three large-scale external concerts each year, and our choirs regularly perform evensongs in various cathedrals across the UK. Our scholars also participate in trips to concerts and conservatoires, with increasing numbers targeting national and international competitions.
The role of Graduate Music Assistant is flexible, and we will work with the successful candidate to create a role/timetable that aligns with their experiences and interests. Opportunities include 1-1 performance coaching, directing ensembles, and gaining academic classroom experience if desired. There is also potential for solo performance and involvement in music technology projects within the Department.
Eltham College is located 20 minutes from central London, offering on-site accommodation and benefits such as access to the school’s Sports Centre and free lunch during term time. The role allows for maintaining an active freelance performing career, as previous post-holders have successfully done.
A highly competitive salary is available, alongside a clear programme of staff development and opportunities for promotion.
Application closing date: 8am on Wednesday 26 February 2025
Interviews to take place: week commencing 03 March 2025
Suitable candidates may be interviewed before the closing date, and Eltham College reserves the right to withdraw the position if an early appointment is made.
We welcome applications from all parts of our community to attract staff that reflect the social and cultural diversity of our student intake.
Eltham College is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children. Applicants undergo enhanced child protection screening relevant to the post, including checks with past employers and the DBS.
