An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Registered Adult Nurse to join the Primary Healthcare team at HMP Leicester.
Working within the Team at HMP Leicester will give you the opportunity to make a real difference to a group of people who traditionally have high psychiatric and social morbidity but have also faced multiple barriers to accessing appropriate healthcare.
This role is for registered nurses, with NMC registration, who wish to pursue a career within Offender Health. You should be enthusiastic, motivated, patient focused and enjoy a challenge.
We provide an integrated service 24 hours 7 days a week. The team operates in a supportive and safe environment with a commitment to personal and professional development.
Main duties of the job
You will be a Registered Nurse with demonstrable experience in physical health care, with associated professional development. Working with men from arrival in the prison through to their release back into the community, you will feel rewarded in your ability to deliver a bespoke package of care to address and improve health inequalities to individuals with diverse and complex health needs.
Delivering a wide range of positive health opportunities to individuals in custody, which is equal to and often above what is offered in the community.

Job responsibilities
The Offender Health Care Group is one of the largest and most successful providers of prison healthcare in the UK. The Care Group provides physical, mental health, and substance misuse healthcare services in prisons across the East Midlands.
Providing healthcare to several Prisons, for a population of over 10,000. You would be part of a large peer group of 400+ healthcare professionals, with access to peer support, supervision, and excellent opportunities for learning and development.
We are committed to working in partnership with prison services, national probation service, other healthcare providers, and our criminal justice system partners to improve health and support justice to reduce re-offending behaviour.
Nursing in a custodial environment provides the perfect opportunity to offer a positive nurse-led health experience to a group of patients who are usually identified as experiencing poor health outcomes.
Its the variety of this role which will provide a stimulating experience like no other; one minute you could be completing a minor injury and illness triage clinic, the next you may be attending an emergency response.
We work as part of a wide MDT, including GPs, Psychiatrists, Psychologists, RMNs, Pharmacists, Substance Misuse Recovery workers, RGNs, Sexual Health Specialists, and other Allied Professionals and have strong links with community services to promote continuity of care.
We have well-established and strong relationships with the prison team, who support us to deliver healthcare safely. This role enables you to work autonomously, whilst always having the support of a strong team when required. There are opportunities and support for progression for the right candidate, which can be anything from completing a full Preceptorship to a master's degree.
