Job Description
This role is open to people out of apprenticeships, college or university who are wanting to become an Instrumentation engineer. The business is keen to either develop, or take on board a skilled engineer!
The successful applicant will work as part of a growing multi-discipline team, participating in all related engineering/technical activities involving the delivery, maintenance, and calibration of laboratory equipment within the Research and Development Centre of Excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with Development Engineers on all projects.
- Ensure the correct operation and annual calibration of all instrumentation in test laboratories, traceable to National Standards using UKAS accredited calibration equipment.
- Perform regular maintenance of equipment, including temperature, pressure, water, gas flow, gas analysis, and more.
- Install new equipment as needed for Natural Gas, Heat Pump, and Hydrogen technologies.
- Understand ATEX-rated equipment and installations.
- Possess knowledge of test panel specification and construction.
- Utilise data acquisition systems, ideally LabView.
- Compile and update calibration procedures.
- Specify and source equipment for new development projects.
- Maintain an up-to-date calibration system for over 1,550 pieces of equipment.
- Build and maintain positive working relationships with both external and internal customers.
Required Skills and Qualifications -
- Flexible approach to instrumentation test rig maintenance and problem-solving.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, able to build relationships with both internal and external customers.
- Relevant subject area qualifications or recognized apprenticeship (HNC/HND). Experience will be considered.
- Strong administrative and IT skills.
- Proactive, with the ability to work on your own initiative.
- Logical and able to analyse and evaluate information quickly and accurately.
- Solid team player with good time management and prioritization skills.
- Flexible and robust with a ‘can-do’ attitude.
