The Independent Chair Service (ICS) provides independent reviewing of the care plans of looked after children, child protection plans, Care Leavers, and plans for children in need subject to supervision orders.
The ICS is in the Strategic Safeguarding and Independent Review Group in Nottinghamshire County Council. The service group also includes strategic safeguarding responsibilities including the Local Authority Designated Officer function, missing children, safeguarding children in education, child criminal exploitation, and child sexual exploitation.
You will be part of a team of Independent Reviewing Officers (IROs) who have responsibility for the coordination and chairing of Looked after Children and Care Leavers reviews across the county and will fulfil the role of an IRO as outlined in national guidance.
Responsibilities:
1. Coordinate and chair reviews for Looked after Children and Care Leavers.
2. Monitor the performance of the Local Authority’s function as a corporate parent.
3. Demonstrate independence and challenge when necessary.
4. Communicate effectively with children and promote their voice.
5. Maintain knowledge of representation and complaints processes/procedures.
6. Define high-quality practice standards to improve outcomes for looked after children.
7. Problem solve and manage time effectively under pressure.
Minimum Requirements:
1. A professional social work qualification.
2. A minimum of five years post-qualification experience.
3. Experience in providing social work supervision and support.
4. Experience of chairing complex meetings.
5. A thorough understanding of the legal framework, regulations, and guidance relating to looked after children/care leavers.
6. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
