As an SEN Teaching Assistant in Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, you will play a key role in supporting students with challenging behaviour using positive behaviour strategies to create a safe, nurturing environment where they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. This role is perfect for someone who is patient, proactive, and genuinely committed to improving outcomes for children with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs and those on the Autistic Spectrum. Key Responsibilities as an SEN Teaching Assistant: Build trusting, positive relationships with pupils to help them feel safe and supported. Implement positive behaviour management strategies to support students in overcoming barriers to learning. Encourage independence and personal growth, promoting self-regulation and social interaction skills. Assist with delivering a tailored curriculum that meets each student’s individual needs. Collaborate with the Class Teacher and clinical team to create personalised intervention plans. Respond calmly and effectively to challenging behaviour, using de-escalation techniques and positive reinforcement. Support students' emotional well-being and help them develop coping mechanisms. SEN Teaching Assistant Skills & Requirements: GCSE Maths and English Language (minimum Grade 4 or equivalent) is essential. Experience working with children with SEMH, ASD, or other additional needs. Understanding of positive behaviour strategies and safeguarding practices. Excellent communication and teamwork skills. Must be commutable to Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk.
