Job Summary
Are you a Clinical Psychologist, a specialist Nurse/Social Worker or other professional who has extensive experience of assessing and diagnosing children with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder and/or Autism? Do you have experience of supporting children and their families post diagnosis? We are a lovely team based in Grimsby who provide assessments for children and young people in North East Lincolnshire, between 0 - 18 years. We have developed a new model which has received much recognition for good practice and has been shortlisted for a national award. We work collaboratively with many other services and the carers forum. We are an innovative, supportive team who place great importance on staff wellbeing and CPD.
Main Duties / Responsibilities
* To use their skills and knowledge to lead on, and support, all aspects of neurodevelopmental assessments, which includes AD/HD and ASD with children and young people, and their families/carers.
* To work autonomously within their professional guidelines as well as liaising closely with other professionals who work with children and young people, their carers and their families.
* To work independently, as part of a team, and across teams, in partnership with parents, education, social care, voluntary and other health professionals to provide integrated care for clients, their families, carers and educators.
* To exercise full responsibility and autonomy for the assessment, support and discharge of a case load of service users, and their carers and families.
* To provide specialist neurodevelopmental advice, guidance and consultation to other professionals contributing directly to the child/young persons formulation, diagnosis and treatment plan.
* Offer regular clinical supervision to less experienced staff.
* Offer clinical leadership in respect of Neurodevelopmental aspects of the service, coordination and management, as agreed by the lead of the specialty.
* To meet appropriate standards of practice in the quality and timeliness of the service provided. The standards of practice will include meeting the standards defined by their registration body and NAVIGO health and social care code of conduct.
* To develop and provide a range of specialist neurodevelopmental assessments to vulnerable children and young people including Looked After Children; children and young people who have mild to severe Learning Disabilities; children who are at risk of contact with, or who have contact with, the Youth Justice Service.
* To lead or be part of the team to assess and diagnose ASD or AD/HD, suggest robust recommendations which have been identified during the assessment based on theoretical knowledge and evidence-based guidance.
* To undertake risk assessment and risk management for individual children/young people and to provide general advice to other professionals on neurodevelopmental aspects of risk assessment and management.
* To communicate in a skilled and sensitive manner, information concerning the assessment, formulation and treatment plans, and to monitor and evaluate progress during the course of both uni-and multi-disciplinary care.
Person Specification
Knowledge Essential
* Extensive knowledge of and experience of neurodevelopmental disorders.
* Specialist knowledge of assessment tools and therapeutic interventions relevant to client group and settings, and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits underpinned by evidence based practice.
* Extensive knowledge of and experience of child protection and safeguarding issues and procedures.
* Specialist knowledge for interpretative assessment techniques.
* Knowledge of the roles of other professionals and the principles of partnership working with key professionals in health, education, and social services and experience of clinical supervision and the ability to engage others in reflective practice.
* A working knowledge of relevant procedures and legal frameworks and to demonstrate the ability to apply this knowledge to clinical practice, including: Safeguarding Children, Code of Practice, Information Governance and other legal frameworks.
* Knowledge of methods of involving service users in improving client care.
Experience Essential
* Demonstrate post qualification experience of working with children and families where there are developmental or neurodevelopmental concerns.
* Demonstrate post qualification experience of working with children and young people from pre-school age to school leaving age.
* Demonstrate post qualification experience of working with children who have experienced abuse.
* Demonstrate extensive post qualification experience of using a range of specialist psychology assessment skills which include:
* Use of psychometric assessments attention/ intelligence, memory, reading, social functioning; executive functioning.
* Use of behavioural assessments.
* Use of observational methods of assessment.
* Assessment by interviewing.
* Assessment by analysis of archive material.
* Demonstrate post qualification experience of developing and providing specialist Neurodevelopmental interventions and intervention packages for children, young people, and their carers and families.
* Demonstrate post qualification experience of providing specialist Neurodevelopmental advice to parents and/or carers and staff concerning the care and/or therapeutic provision for children and young people.
* Extensive experience of working within multi-disciplinary and multi-agency settings.
* Experience of working in the community.
* Post qualification experience of working with children and young people with a range of disabilities and special needs from mild to extensive difficulties including learning difficulties; physical difficulties; chronic and acute health problems.
* Experience of working with autistic children and young people.
* Experience of providing supervision to other professionals who work with children and young people and their carers and families.
* Experience of providing consultation to other professional and non-professional groups.
* Experience of developing and delivering teaching/training to professionals and parents/carers.
* Experience of audit or service evaluation.
Qualifications Essential
* Honours degree graded at a 2:1 or above in children's nursing, mental health nursing, psychology or other relevant profession such as speech and language, social work.
* Registered member of NMC, HCPC or other professional body.
* Additional specialist training related to working with children, young people and their families and carers in managing neurodevelopmental conditions.
* Clinical supervision training.
Additional Criteria Essential
* Demonstratable experience of research and project design for the development of service provision and outcomes.
* Knowledge of relevant child protection, safeguarding and mental health legislation and its implications for clinical practice when working with children, young people and their families/carers.
* Evidence of continuing professional development.
* Good organisational, time management, and IT skills.
* Ability to reflect and critically appraise own performance.
* Ability to manage own caseload including prioritisation skills.
* Well developed concentration skills.
* Ability to fulfil travel commitments of community work independently.
