Job description
A fantastic opportunity has arisen at Shipshape café bar in Ramsgate for an apprentice chef to join the team.
Work as part of the shipshape team in a fast paced, fun environment. No two days are the same. Your main duties will be helping with daily food preparation for both hot and cold meals. Many of our customers visit regularly for our legendary breakfast. Our kitchen is open plan, customers can see what is cooking and talk to us. You will help with baking; we bake all our cakes daily. We are mindful of the importance of sustainability and protecting the environment. Our sausages are from our local butcher, our eggs are local and free range.
By the end of your apprenticeship you will be able to:-
Produce food meeting portion controls, and budgetary constraints
Maintain excellent standards of personal, food and kitchen hygiene
Ensure compliance to procedures, menu specifications and recipes.
Adapt and produce dishes to meet special dietary, religious and allergenic requirements
Follow, complete and maintain production schedules, legislative and quality standard documentation
Use specialist kitchen equipment
Communicate internally and externally with customers and colleagues
Work in an commercial kitchen
As an apprentice you will be included on a Production Chef level 2 qualification. This is all done in the workplace with no college involved.
To become an apprentice, you must:
be 16 or over
not already be in full-time education
You can start an apprenticeship whether you’re starting your career, want a change or you're upskilling in your current job. You can have a previous qualification like a degree and still start an apprenticeship.
As an apprentice you’ll:
have regular one to one sessions with a dedicated trainer either remotely or through visits to your workplace
learn and train for a specific job
get paid and receive holiday leave
get hands-on experience in a real job
study for at least 20% of your working hours
complete assessments during and at the end of your apprenticeship
be on a career path with lots of future potential

Levels of an apprenticeship
Each apprenticeship has a level and an equivalent education level. You can start an apprenticeship at any level.
At the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll achieve the equivalent education level. For example, if you complete a level 3 apprenticeship, you’ll achieve the equivalent of an A level.
