NCIC Diabetic Foot Department Support Volunteer:
What is the purpose of the role?
The volunteer will be located in the diabetic foot clinic at West Cumberland Hospital where they will welcome outpatients and visitors, help people navigate their way around the department/hospital and reassure and support people who are attending clinics and appointments or are visiting friends or family.
This is a voluntary role.
Main duties of the job
What tasks can this role include?
* Provide practical help, offering advice and directions.
* Escort patients and visitors to wards or departments.
* Physically push wheelchair-bound patients from different outpatient locations, which will involve walking for up to 10 minutes going between floors (you will be required to undertake some training on the safe use of wheelchairs by our "Moving & Handling" team prior to commencement).
* Seek out people who are looking lost or in need of assistance and help them.
* Offer companionship, comfort, and support to patients.
* Locate wheelchairs if required.
* You will not be asked to lift patients at any time.
This might be the role for you if:
* You have the ability to communicate with all groups of people.
* Physically able to push a patient in a wheelchair, maximum distance would be no more than 10 minutes going between floors.
* Helpful and accommodating manner.
