Why this role matters As a consultant professional in our Defence Enterprise Networks practice you will be working as a trusted industry partner to our defence customer and cross-functionally supporting internal business units (Sales, Business, Technology, Security and Operations), key stakeholders and externally facing third party technology providers as part of and reporting into the practice manager. You will work with internal key stakeholders, the customer, and its subsidiary departments to define and create innovative fit for purpose enterprise network solutions in meeting their digital strategy and transform the way they can do business. Underpinned by using robust ICT framework architecture, security principles, methodologies, industry best practices, and customer compliance polices. As a technical designer you will be providing subject matter design expertise and ownership throughout the project delivery stages of the solutions design engagement life cycle. You will be part of an industry leading Technical Design Authority team working closely with other architects, designers, technology experts, business managers and business analysts. Where you will bring your expertise and diverse experience to each challenge ensuring successful solution delivery across a vast variation in highly sensitive and unique opportunities and projects. Please note, this role is a six month fixed term contract and based in Chippenham. Our Hybrid working model means you are expected to be in the office 3 days per week. You'll have the following responsibilities • Be an ambassador for our company, our customers, and our team • Be the technical designer for a specific secure domain and/or related service(s). Engaging with internal business stakeholders and key partners in providing enterprise networking design expertise, ownership and technology decision making aligned to the Solution Design Authority architecture principles. • Provide subject matter expertise to key stakeholders and business units in responding to complex in-contract customer Request for Information, Contract Change Notification and/or, Solution Design Proposal. Throughout all stages of a solutions design engagement life cycle. • Evaluate, establish, and document technology product CAPEX/OPEX costs, dependencies, risks, impact, and mitigation to a service(s). • Provide and own in-life, change and project delivery technical outcomes such as Technical Low-Level Design, derived from the customer's business requirements. • Provide subject matter expertise to the Defence Assurance Board before integration of change into a domain or service(s). • Support the Solution Design Authority in developing technical design artefacts, including ‘as-is’, ‘to-be’ and transitional states addressing key stakeholder technological design requirements. • Provide tier 4 subject matter expertise to operational support teams for a specific domain or service(s). • Provide design overview and familiarisation to operational support teams. • Keep up to date with the industry sector, the wider digital economy and identify advances in technology, emerging trends and how this could impact the customer and BT. You'll have the following skills and experience • Hold or being willing to undergo Security Check | Developed Vetting clearance. • Working knowledge and experience of IP Networking (L1-L7), MPLS, VPLS, BGP, OSPF, GRE tunnelling technology architecture disciplines. • Working knowledge and experience of networking vendors technologies, solutions, and products (such as: Cisco, Juniper). • Working knowledge and hands on experience in designing, configuring, testing, and commissioning IP networking solutions. • Preferably have the following professional training and/or accreditations • CompTIA Network • Cisco technologies (CCNA) • Juniper technologies (JNCIA-Junos) • Other industry COTS network security technologies. • Proven commercial awareness to ensure CAPEX/OPEX costings of a proposed change meets customer requirements. • Experience of identifying risks, impact, mitigation, and problem-solving in enterprise network solutions. • Experienced in communicating IP network technologies to key stakeholders with varying technical knowledge. • Preferably experienced in working in major public industry sectors; Defence (MoD) and/or HM Government departments or agencies. • Preferably working knowledge and experience in HMG MoD compliance and security policies. • Self-starter who can work independently with minimal support and guidance.
