If so, we may have the perfect opportunity for you as we have a vacancy for a part-time Band 6 Clinical Nurse Specialist in Urology Oncology.
This role is to deliver and provide high quality support and care to patients on the Urological cancer pathways. You will be able to work autonomously and as part of a team, delivering care either through clinics, face-to-face or via telephone, and providing support to patients on the wards.
The role will involve working within a team of Cancer Nurse Specialists, a Cancer Care Coordinator, Consultants, and the wider MDT to deliver standards of care and practice associated with the Local and National Cancer frameworks and Guidance.
Experience of nursing within Urology and/or Oncology is desirable, although support and education will be provided with mentorship.
Main duties of the job
Our nurse specialists have experience in cancer nursing and specialise in the care and support of patients with Urology Oncology disease, including support for patients’ families and carers.
You will be providing specialist care and advice to patients from diagnosis through treatment, living with, and beyond cancer. This will include:
1. Providing personalised care and support to patients.
2. Understanding what is important to the patient.
3. Discussing and explaining diagnosis and treatment options available.
4. Providing Macmillan Holistic Needs Assessments at diagnosis and end of treatment, including completion of end of treatment summaries with referrals to a wide range of support utilising the local community where appropriate.
5. Developing links with other professionals, specialist teams, and services in primary, secondary, tertiary, and community care.
6. Supporting self-management.
7. Acting as a referral and liaison for the MDT and an information resource for those involved in the care and management of urological malignancies.
8. Working autonomously as a specialist resource for uro-oncology patients with cancer conditions, their carers, and other professionals.
9. Providing care for a caseload of patients.
10. Aiming to prevent unnecessary admissions.

* Knowledge of current national cancer strategy and its impact on local service provision.
