Job Title - Assistant Technical Adviser – Environment and Sustainability
Overall Purpose of the Job
The post holder will assist the Technical Adviser (TA) – Environment and Sustainability (ES) to deliver the organisations work programme, especially that of the ES committee.
This organisation has long held the position of developing safety standards across the offshore subsea industry and is recognized as the industry standard setter in this regard.
This is an exciting time to join them and the ES assistant will have the opportunity to shape the future of direction of their environmental and sustainability value offering and activities.
The offshore industry is currently undergoing a huge transition in response to the multifaceted challenges of achieving Net Zero, improved stewardship of the marine environment, and embedding responsible resource use. Transition to a low carbon economy and the need for infrastructure to protect and restore marine environmental resources will benefit coastal communities. This, in turn, means that organisational efforts will be critical for achieving global Blue Economy aims.
This role will enable the organisation to shape environmental best practices and standards for the offshore sector by harnessing the collective efforts of the industry, building relationships with new sectors across the sustainability space, and fostering collaborations and activities contributing to environmental sustainability goals and targets as they continue to emerge.
Key Responsibilities
* Work collaboratively with the TA to support the ES Committee’s agenda, objectives, and internal processes.
* Work collaboratively with the Director of Strategy and Energy Transition to support the overall strategy to support members’ decarbonisation and meet IMO / regulators’ targets.
* Attend and contribute to committee(s) and workgroups, including preparing meetings minutes, and follow-up on actions.
* Assist in the collection of information and feedback from members to facilitate development of guidelines.
* Assist in the drafting of guidance documents and information Notes.
* Monitor regulatory and technical developments which may affect Members, briefing and lobbying as appropriate.
* Assisting with preparing presentations and training for regional meetings.
* Assisting with preparing Environmental Sustainability briefings for the senior management.
* Consult and engage with the organisation and deliver Environmental Sustainability awareness training.
* Provide support to organisational Members on Environmental Sustainability inquiries.
* Travel nationally and internationally, as required, to represent the organisation at appropriate meetings and events.
Person Specification
Experience, Qualifications, Qualities
* Awareness of the evolving sustainability regulatory landscape and knowledge of forthcoming regional and international legislative requirements.
* A communicator and persuader to pragmatically coach offshore contractors of the need to raise their profile and credentials in marine environmental matters.
* Confidence in engaging at a senior level to liaise with member companies, solicit ideas and initiatives, and drive forward a programme of improvement.
* A champion for the reduction of carbon emissions from the fleet compared with the wider shipping industry.
* Experience in the development, design, and implementation of new programs and initiatives.
* Ability to work with data and extract industry insights from available data sources.
Skills
* Advanced English skills with first-class communication/presentation skills (written and verbal).
* Well-developed interpersonal skills to be able to work with groups of varying expertise and seniority.
* Clear vision, passion and drive to lead continual improvement, implementing strategic plans.
* Strong personal skills in representing and promoting the work of the organisation.
* Good organisational skills and coordination skills with the ability to prioritise and work to tight deadlines.
* Ability to excel in a team working environment.
Education and Knowledge
Must be a graduate in an environmental or related discipline.
Knowledge of environmental legislation.
