The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) was founded in 1991 to support the transition to market economies in central Europe and central Asia. We invest to help build market economies and promote policies that bolster the business climate.
The Office of the Chief Economist (OCE) at EBRD is seeking to recruit a Research Economist. Applications are welcome from candidates at all career stages, including PhD candidates, post-docs, and current tenure-track or tenured faculty members. OCE conducts policy-relevant research on economic development and structural transformation in EBRD's countries of operation, as well as other low- and middle-income countries.
Responsibilities:
* Conduct and publish high-quality, policy-relevant economic research.
* Provide intellectual leadership within the area of expertise to EBRD management and other departments.
* Contribute to flagship EBRD publications, such as the annual Transition Report.
* Manage an independent research agenda and present work at conferences.
* Engage with academia and mentor analysts and interns.
Background:
OCE consists of a team of 18 research economists and analysts. It contributes to the operational, policy, and strategy work of the Bank and provides intellectual leadership on economic and structural transformation in the countries where EBRD invests.
Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
* Undertake, present, and publish high-quality academic research.
* Provide guidance and leadership to analysts and interns.
* Establish and maintain strong links with outside academics and policymakers.
* Contribute to key research outputs, such as chapters in the Transition Report.
Knowledge, Skills, Experience & Qualifications:
* Ph.D. or Ph.D. candidate in Economics or Finance from a leading university.
* Strong research track record in relevant fields, with evidence of academic publications.
* Proven ability to undertake empirical analysis independently.
* Experience with Stata, R, Python, or similar programming languages.
* Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written.
