The WRU Board is seeking to appoint an independent Committee member with specific skills and experience in marketing and communications to contribute to the development of Women’s rugby.
We are looking for an individual with outstanding leadership skills and experience of driving change through innovation. You will bring passion and commitment to the Women’s Rugby Committee (WRC), with focus and insight to accelerate implementation of the women’s rugby pillar of the WRU One Wales 2024-29 strategy.
The Women’s rugby strategy will drive achievement of an ambitious future for the women’s game and for women in rugby, to build a game that is fully inclusive of women on and off the pitch.
The specific areas of development within scope for the WRC are:
* Schools and youth rugby
* Club development, accessibility and inclusion
* Player development and pathways
* Elite domestic and high-performance rugby
* Competition structures
* Coaching and officiating
* Workforce development including volunteering and leadership pathways
Closing Date: 17th January 2025
The fee associated with this role is £300 per day
Time Commitment
It is anticipated that the time commitment for the role will be a maximum of 1 day a month.

* A demonstrable commitment to the development, growth and success of women’s rugby
* Strong analytical skills, the ability to present own views in a clear, concise manner
* Ability to actively listen and respect others’ views
* Outstanding advocacy and communication skills, with the ability to engage with individuals and the public
* Experience at board, committee or senior executive level of setting strategic plans and working to defined objectives
* The ability to champion diversity and inclusion, and challenge inequality
* The ability to think strategically and creatively
* Personal integrity and commitment to openness, inclusion and high standards of governance
* The ability to devote the necessary time to the role
The Role
To support the work of the WRC, the Welsh Rugby Union is seeking someone who can support and challenge the executive to:
* Create innovative and high impact marketing and communication strategies that harness the power and potential of Welsh women’s rugby
* Identify opportunities to define and promote the Welsh Rugby Union’s women’s rugby brand
* Develop and identify fan engagement opportunities including leveraging data, digital and social media
* Develop commercial offers to engage and partner with organisations who will amplify the impact, reach and financial return of Welsh women’s rugby
* Inspire girls and women to play, coach, officiate and lead rugby across Wales.
This role requires someone who has extensive experience of sports marketing, specifically marketing and promotion of women’s sport. This includes designing, implementing and evaluating marketing strategies that engage and inspire existing and new audiences.
