Butterfield Group employs 150 multi-skilled, sign specific experienced personnel operating from our Bradford factory locations. The role of Design Engineer is managed by the Design Manager. There will be on the job training, development and opportunities for growth and career progression Job Summary We are a signage manufacturing company seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to join our team. This role will be focused on producing detailed manufacturing drawings for the shop floor and creating transmissions for Laser and Router Machines, primarily using Signlab and/or SolidWorks. You will be a key member of our design team, ensuring that all drawings and specifications meet the highest standards for quality and accuracy. Key Responsibilities Design & Drafting : Use SolidWorks and Signlab to create precise manufacturing drawings, including sheet metal layouts, material specifications, colours, dimensions, and Bill of Materials (BOM). Provide a 3D visual representation of products to support both the factory and clients. CNC Transmission & Drawings : Generate DXF transmissions and flat-pack drawings for CNC machine cutting, ensuring accurate and efficient machine operation. Problem-Solving : Address issues from the Operations team or shop floor swiftly and effectively, ensuring solutions meet the industry’s short lead times. Job System Maintenance : Keep the in-house Microsoft Access Job System up to date, ensuring all work and transmissions are logged correctly for smooth job progression. Project Management Support : Collaborate with the Design Manager to manage projects from start to finish, maintaining an efficient workflow between design and production. Key Skills & Competencies A team player with strong attention to detail and a proactive attitude towards problem-solving. Eager to develop new skills and contribute to improving the efficiency and accuracy of the department. Prior experience in signage manufacturing or a similar industry (e.g., sheet metal or steel construction) is highly desirable. Previous experience with SolidWorks (or Inventor) is essential. Additional experience with Signlab or other relevant software is an advantage, though in-house training will be provided Long-Term Role Development Manufacturing Drawings : Continued development of accurate and detailed designs. Transmissions/Programming : Focus on generating machine-ready transmissions for CNC machines. Performance Reviews This role will be reviewed quarterly by the Design Manager to assess progress, training needs, and long-term growth opportunities.
