Bristol Myers Squibb (BMS) is seeking an accomplished leader to spearhead and manage our centralised enterprise contracting facilitation efforts for international markets. Reporting to the Senior Director, Head of Enterprise Contracting Facilitation, this role is pivotal in driving collaboration across Legal, Procurement, and Business teams in EMEA.
As the Director, you'll lead a team of facilitators managing contracts across multiple languages, geographies, and segments. You'll optimise operations by monitoring KPIs, streamlining processes, and implementing solutions to improve contract workflows. Acting as the ultimate escalation point for EMEA contracts, you'll ensure alignment with organizational goals while fostering consistency across teams and liaising on technology enhancements.
Key Responsibilities
1. Lead team of expert International Contract Facilitators
* Assist Head of ECF to source, build and lead an International team of Contract Facilitators.
* Develop and oversee a structured framework and operating model to efficiently manage and facilitate International contract operations, focusing on buy-side and other in-scope contracts across BMS.
* Provide strategic oversight of the International contract facilitation capability to ensure timely and high quality contracting facilitation services to support stakeholders and partners.
* Manage team performing in scope contracting activities while ensuring:
o Completion of any required pre-transactional steps and prior endorsement, with appropriate risk assessment due diligence.
o Timely execution of contracts with appropriate Legal support to ensure compliance with company standards.
o Ensure that projects are appropriately triaged, prioritized and assigned to associated ECF Contract Facilitators based on complexity levels and local laws and regulations.
o Coach and advise the contract management team on facilitating transactions, ensuring policy compliance, and collaborating with Legal on complex contractual matters.
o Pre-approve all contracts prior to escalating them to Legal for review.
o Will be the contact for any ECF team International contract escalations that not legal in nature.
o Support projects on behalf of the ECF Leadership Team.
o Develop and deploy quality assurance protocols to monitor team and individual quality and to ensure only appropriate escalations in compliance with escalation protocols.
1. Oversee the International ECF Contracting Facilitation process and ensure excellence in International contract facilitation.
* Meet and create strong relationships with International Law leadership and colleagues.
* Meet and create strong relationships with International Procurement & Business leadership and colleagues.
* Provide stakeholder input to relevant BMS policies, processes and systems from the International contract facilitator perspective and ensure ECF teams compliance with same.
* Collaborate with International Legal to enhance contract templates, guidance, and improve the efficiency of the Procurement contracting function.
* Ensure key agreements and contracts are reviewed to protect and advance the company's interests.
* Define performance targets for Procurement-managed contracting process and drive ECF accountability against targets.
* Collaborate with Legal and key stakeholders to establish clear thresholds and seamless hand-offs between Procurement, Legal, and other parties.
* Collaborate closely with the Head of ECF to ensure alignment in strategy, framework and scope.
* Create strong process framework and Ways of Working for International ECF Team with Legal, Procurement and the Business.
* Be the main contact for anything technological for International contracting for ECF.
* Act as the backup for the Head of ECF when, Head is out of office.
2. Provide Expert International Contract Facilitation and ensure consistency with government and country regulations and company policy.
* Act as International SME for contracting from a facilitation point of view both inside and outside ECF.
* Understand the nuances between country, regions laws and requirements.
* Identify and escalate any contractual risks from third-party agreements in accordance with the Risk Management Framework.
* Provide expert International contract facilitation and ensure consistency with government, country regulations and adherence to BMS policies.

Qualifications & Experience
Minimum Requirements
* JD, LLB, PGDL, CILEX or equivalent international legal degree
* 10+ years of experience including drafting, reviewing and negotiating procurement / business contracts, procurement negotiations (preferably in Pharmaceutical or Life Sciences industries [or other regulated industries)
* Contract drafting, negotiation and redlining experience in EMEA/APAC with Canada or Latam experience a plus.
* Extensive experience leading and developing global contracting teams, with a proven track record of driving performance and setting clear expectations.
* Relevant Experience with internal stakeholder management, data/information management, process redesign and continuous improvement expertise, project management, training and performance measurement skills.
* Proven experience in influencing key internal and external stakeholders (including senior leaders) to obtain buy-in, in order to implement change.
* Effective management of cross-functional, multi-cultural teams and demonstrated ability to work and influence within a matrix structure.
* Excellent communication skills and diplomacy to convey information and influence others with a customer focus.
* Proven people management experience in mentoring, coaching, and promoting professional development through growth mindset strategies.
Preferred Qualifications
* 10+ years prior experience with legal and contracting within the pharma/biotech/CRO industry and team leadership required.
* Excellent understanding of pharma contracting, compliance, and policies relevant to the services within the remit of the role.
* Proven leadership success and demonstrated ability to work and influence within a matrix structure.
* Proven ability to engage teams and inspire them to sustain high levels of performance in a constantly changing environment.
* Demonstrates a high level of adaptability in dealing with ambiguous and complex work environment and balances multiples demands on role in a responsive and professional manner.
* Process mindset and analytical reasoning.
* Experience with Contract Lifecycle Management technology to automate and streamline processes is preferred.
* Familiarity with Icertis.
* Working knowledge of contract terms and conditions, with a strong preference for working knowledge of facilitating, drafting, and negotiating buy-side and other in-scope contracts in the pharma/biotech industry.
