Social Worker - Children & Young People with Disabilities Team Mid Essex
Type: Permanent, Full Time
Closing Date: 28th April 2025
This position is open to Newly Qualified Social Workers (NQSWs) and Experienced Social Workers. The starting salary for a NQSW is £34,902 per annum, rising to £38,185 upon successful completion of the ASYE programme.

The Role
Family Operations provides services to vulnerable children, young people, and complex families, aligned with county outcomes. Reporting to a Team Manager, you will be part of a small team focused on delivering excellent social work practice across areas including Assessment & Intervention, Family Support & Protection, Children in Care, Leaving Care, Fostering, and Adoption. You will uphold high standards in social work, working within legal and policy frameworks.
The Opportunity
Manage a caseload, working with children, young people, and families to achieve positive outcomes through assessment, intervention, and review, especially in Child Protection, Child in Need, and Children Looked After cases.
Key Responsibilities
* Assess and support children and families with complex needs, adhering to legal and policy guidelines.
* Work collaboratively with professionals and families to improve safety and well-being.
* Conduct assessments and safeguard children from harm, including potential removal from parents or carers.
* Arrange appropriate care solutions, including permanent placements.
* Make recommendations on statutory interventions and prepare court reports.
* Assess foster and kinship carers and act as Practice Educator or Assessor for social work students and NQSWs.
* Engage with communities and maximize personal and social resources.
Additional Responsibilities
* Deliver excellent customer service aligned with ECC values.
* Collaborate across teams and take ownership of personal development.
* Identify and respond to risks, including health and safety.
* Participate in projects and process improvements.
Required Experience and Qualifications
* Recognized social work qualification (Diploma, degree, or Masters) and current registration with Social Work England.
* Experience practicing according to professional standards and frameworks.
* Ability to record cases accurately and confidently handle challenging situations.
* Proficiency with IT systems, including case recording software.
* Mobility across Essex, with a valid driving license and access to a vehicle.
* Flexibility to work evenings and weekends if necessary.
