Message from the Principal
I am honoured to be entrusted with leading Thomas Telford UTC on this extraordinary journey. We opened our doors in 2020 with a vision to provide exceptional education, and since then, we have excelled in providing an outstanding learning environment. Our dedication to high standards has allowed us to build a strong reputation for academic excellence, innovation, and student success.
Working together with the Thomas Telford Multi Academy Trust we provide our students with the perfect combination of academic and technical excellence in preparation for the world of work and the fantastic opportunities that await them.
I want every child that comes to Thomas Telford UTC to be part of the fabric of the school, and to go home every day fulfilled and happy that they have made progress in their learning and development. I am excited to see the individual growth or each of our students over the coming years.
Thomas Telford UTC are looking for inspirational and dynamic teachers to help shape a forward-thinking approach to education.
The Role
We have a rare opportunity to join our Design team offering subjects including art endorsements such as fine art, three-dimensional design (including ceramics) and photography. Endorsements can be flexible for a suitable candidate as we welcome diversity in our offer. There may be opportunities for design staff to teach across Art Design and Design Technology. Training will be provided for candidates willing to expand their own portfolio of relevant processes and media. The UTC offers great opportunities for students as part of the three school specialisms: Design, Build & Innovate.
Our mission is to create a pipeline of talented professionals for related industry sectors, and courses on offer encourage a full range of multidisciplinary opportunities encompassing both theoretical and practical applications. As a UTC we have unique relationships with employers, local universities, professional organisations and industry providers. Our newly developed curriculum is a forward-thinking bespoke opportunity looking to embody not only traditional knowledge and skills but also look to develop new innovative technologies and concepts. We look to embed our curriculum to support future opportunities in STEAM orientated professions, and to develop each student’s personal portfolio to include their curriculum outcomes through varied and interesting bodies of work. Design is a subject area fully supported, valued and showcased by the school and our wider partners.
The ideal candidate could come from a background related to Art & Design, Design & Technology, or a similar relatable subject. CPD opportunities are valued for staff, and staff development is core to our teaching and learning programme. Many of our staff have worked in industry and, whereas this is not a prerequisite, this is valued by the school. As a UTC we have extensive facilities across the campus and equipment fully supported by a full-time experienced technician. We offer a genuine team approach, purpose-built resources and wonderfully engaged young people. At a time when the UK economy has enormous demand for talent within STEAM disciplines, our school is bucking the trend and making our specialist subjects front and centre within our curriculum offer with increasing uptake and developing curriculum.
We are looking to appoint an outstanding teacher to be part of a successful team. The successful applicant’s primary focus will be to drive academic excellence and in return the UTC offers:
· Exceptional teaching environment
· Working in collaboration with Thomas Telford School MAT
· Payments for cover lessons
· Performance Related Pay
· Access to the fitness suite
· Free tea/coffee and fruit

All shortlisted candidates are now subject to an on-line check and if there is anything concerning, then the shortlisted candidate will be asked to comment on it either prior or at interview.
