Job Title: Data Governance Manager

About the Role
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Governance Manager to lead the development and implementation of data governance structures within a global healthcare organization. This role is crucial in shaping the company’s data governance strategy from the ground up, ensuring data integrity, compliance, and security.
The successful candidate will report to the Technology Senior Director and collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, Compliance, Risk, and Business Units, to build a strong data governance framework that supports the organization’s strategic objectives.
Key Responsibilities
1. Establish and implement a Data Governance Structure based on best practices, starting from an initial low maturity level.
2. Provide expertise and guidance on data governance to various departments.
3. Develop and maintain the Data Governance Policy, incorporating input from IT, Product teams, Risk and Compliance, Data Protection, and Information Security teams.
4. Define and embed roles and responsibilities related to data governance across the organization.
5. Develop training programs for Data Stewards and Data Owners.
6. Conduct annual monitoring and testing of data governance processes.
7. Work with stakeholders to develop a global data catalog and implement data classification within enterprise architecture.
8. Define and enforce data governance policies and standards.
9. Lead the Data Governance Board and collaborate with Data Stewards to ensure high data quality and compliance.
10. Monitor industry trends and advancements in data management, ensuring best practices are adopted.
11. Collaborate with IT and business functions to implement data governance technologies and architecture.
12. Provide training and guidance to employees on data governance principles.
13. Oversee data governance projects and initiatives from inception to completion.
14. Ensure compliance with data protection regulations and industry standards.
Qualifications & Experience
1. 3-5 years of experience in data management or information governance within a global organization.
2. Strong knowledge of data governance best practices, methodologies, and frameworks.
3. Commercially minded, able to demonstrate the value of well-governed data.
4. Strong organizational and stakeholder management skills with the ability to lead multiple workstreams.
5. Passionate about data governance and able to articulate its value at various organizational levels.
6. Ability to work with senior leadership, technical teams, and non-technical stakeholders to drive a data-driven culture.
7. Hands-on experience with data quality tools and data management applications.
8. Strong knowledge of data privacy and protection regulations.
Preferred Qualifications & Skills
1. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Data Management, or a related field.
2. Certifications such as Certified Data Management Professional (CDMP) or equivalent.
3. Knowledge of industry-leading data management applications (Gartner Quadrant tools).
4. Experience in implementing and managing data governance platforms.
5. Experience leading cross-functional teams in complex organizational environments.
6. Prior experience in pharmaceutical, life sciences, or manufacturing sectors is highly desirable.
