Birmingham Hybrid working The Division The Capsticks’ Advisory team is a growing team which provides advice on a range of urgent, novel and strategic matters to clients in the NHS, private healthcare, medical technology, emergency services, police, education, housing, charity, and social care sectors. We are also instructed by regulatory bodies, such as the Solicitors Regulation Authority, Bar Standards Board and Social Work England. We handle in excess of 400 inquest cases a year and advise on high profile matters such as public inquiries, urgent medical treatment cases and major public spending decisions. Our team is dedicated to working for clients in these sectors and we have expertise in delivering results that matter for our clients and the people who use the services provided by them. Our team helps our clients across a wide range of issues, including: - Court of Protection, judicial review and mental health litigation - Inquests - Mental Health and Mental Capacity law, to include Deprivation of Liberty - Public law, advising commissioning and service provider organisations on governance, powers and responsibilities, as well as funding and treatment decision making. - Governance and patient safety investigations - CQC and related health care regulation - Confidentiality - Information law (DPA/FOIA) The Role and Responsibilities The main role and responsibilities will involve working to a chargeable hours target, helping the solicitors in all aspects of their casework including (although, this is not an exhaustive list):- - General case management including managing documents, responsibility for the meeting of deadlines and preparing bundles for court hearings; - Assisting fee earners in preparing witness evidence; - Drafting general correspondence and documents; - Preparing and drafting reports to the client; - Poof reading documents; - Undertaking research; - Liaison with clients, claimants, counsel and courts;; - Collating and analysing evidence received in order to advise the client; and - Attending conferences and court hearings to take a note of proceedings and provide support to the advocates, clients and witnesses. Supervision, support and relevant training will be provided although the successful applicant will also be encouraged, where appropriate, to use their own initiative. Skills and Experience Candidates should have: - A 2:1 undergraduate degree; - Ideally an LPC or BVC qualification (LPC would be preferred but is not essential) - Strong IT skills; - Ability to adhere to and manage deadlines; - Good written skills; - Good administration skills; and - Good communication skills; Candidates will also be expected to demonstrate at interview: - Are well organised; - Have good attention to detail; - Are able to work well under pressure; - Are proactive; and - Are self-motivated Candidates should be aware: As part of the interview process there will be a written test, details of which will be provided to those candidates the firm calls for interview; and the firm is only able to respond to candidates we call for interview.
