Main duties of the job
The postholder supports the GP(s) to ensure the efficient provision of medical servicesand clinics by performing several more routine administrative and clinicalduties. This will allow the GP(s) to utilise their own time more effectivelytowards greater patient focused activities.

You will be part of a large team madeup of 7 GP Partners, 1 Managing Partner, 9 Salaried GP's, 2 HealthcareAssistants, 11 Practice Nurses and one Mental Health Nurse Practitioner.
Our Non-clinical team is made up ofour Management Team, Dispensary, Patient Services Advisors, Performance Teamand Administration/Secretarial Team.
We also have a Medicines Managementteam consisting of our Practice Pharmacist, Pharmacy Technicians, PrescriptionsAdministrator and Medicines Management Administrators.

Job responsibilities
Thefollowing are the core responsibilities of the GP Assistant. There may be, onoccasion, a requirement to carry out other tasks. This will be dependent uponfactors such as workload and staffing levels.
a. Preparing patients, prior to seeing theGP(s), by taking a brief history and basic observations.
b. Conducting urinalysis, taking bloodpressure
c. Performing ECGs
e. Explaining treatment procedures topatients
f. Sorting all clinical post andprioritising for the GP(s) regarding actions required
g. Signposting some received correspondenceto others, e.g., clinical pharmacist, practice nurse
h. Extracting all the required informationfrom clinical letters, applying medical codes as required and adding these topatient notes
i. Support practice patients by arrangingappointments, onward referrals, clinical tests and follow up appointments.
j. Completing basic (non-opinion) forms inaddition to some elements of forms for the GP(s) to approve such as insuranceforms, mortgage applications, Department for Works and Pensions benefits formsand other as appropriate
k. Supporting GP(s) in liaising withexternal agencies such as helping to arrange patient admission while the GP(s)continue with the consultation.
l. Supporting the GP(s) with wound care andimmunisations
m. Attending a formal appraisal with theirmanager at least every 12 months. Once a performance/training objective hasbeen set, progress will be reviewed on a regular basis so that new objectivescan be agreed
n. Contributing to public health campaigns(e.g., flu clinics) through advice or direct care

Qualifications
* Healthcare Qualification (Level 3 or 4) or working towards gaining equivalent level.
