An exciting opportunity to lead on quality management within Pathology at North Cumbria Integrated Care NHS Foundation Trust has become available.
You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the quality management system and delivering compliance with legislated guidelines, accreditation standards and best practices. You must be able to demonstrate a background in delivering similar frameworks and balancing operational demands with training and compliance requirements.
For trainee candidates, applications are invited for a graduate/post graduate to train as a Quality Manager in Pathology. You must be prepared to train within a multi-discipline environment to achieve the required knowledge and skills to meet the essential requirement of the job description. Recent experience working in a laboratory environment is desirable. The post will be reviewed after two years. We will make a training development plan with you, which sets out our commitment to your training and your responsibilities.
Main Duties of the Job
Working in collaboration with the senior management teams, the post holder will develop, implement and maintain systems to assure quality within pathology at North Cumbria.
The post holder will be responsible for assuring the quality of all areas of clinical practice against the current standards. This will include delivery and oversight of quality improvement programmes.
The post holder will manage risk within the department and will be responsible for:
* Managing and developing the Pathology Quality Management System for Cell Sciences, Blood Sciences, Infection Sciences and Point of Care Testing.
* Managing the UKAS accreditation process for all disciplines within Pathology.
* Monitoring compliance with regulatory licensing and accrediting bodies including MHRA, HTA and HSE.
* Chairing the Pathology Safety and Quality meeting and attending departmental Safety and Quality meetings.
* Providing advice, guidance and support to all pathology staff.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Degree or equivalent in Biomedical science, or equivalent quality management qualification.
* Masters level qualification or equivalent training and experience.
* Continuing professional development with portfolio.
* IBMS extended practice in quality management certificate or equivalent.
* Health and safety certificate or equivalent.
* Qualification in management/quality management to postgraduate diploma or equivalent level or willing to undertake.
* HCPC registration.
Experience
* Substantial working to quality management standards within a UK clinical laboratory or equivalent experience.
* Management and/or implementation of a quality management system.
* Monitoring compliance against standards.
* Supervision of staff and non-staff resources within an NHS environment.
* Administration of IT systems.
* Developing teams to achieve organisational goals.
* Use of word processing, use of databases, spreadsheets and presentation tools.
* Proven delivery against performance targets/deliverables.
* Working practice in pathology disciplines.
* Quality management software or equivalent experience.
* Knowledge of one or more pathology service areas.
Knowledge
* Standards for regulatory, licensing and accreditation bodies of UK clinical laboratories e.g. MHRA, HTA and UKAS.

* Best practice in pathology or equivalent experience in QMS.
