Job Description
Our client works in the offshore, ports and shipping and oil and gas industry and is looking for a Crane Automation Engineer to work on new and innovative projects worldwide. As part of the Crane Automation Engineer position, you will receive all relevant offshore tickets and medicals, work in a variety of environments and on a huge range of equipment all over the world. The company supports the ports and shipping, military, manufacturing, and oil and gas industries. They are thriving after winning several new contracts globally and are looking to expand.
Ideally, you will be OEM trained or have several years of experience, specifically in the automation sector focusing on Drives and PLCs. Although you may be required to attend the office for certain projects (which will be fully expensed), you will predominantly be home-based and travel to customer sites when needed.
Oil & Gas / Heavy Engineering Industry
We are looking for an experienced Automation Engineer with experience in heavy industrial drives to join the fastest growing division within an international oil & gas engineering company.
Preferred Qualifications
* Degree qualified in Electronics or Automation or Mechatronics
* HND/HNC/NVQ L3 with experience will be considered
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
1. Responsible for overseeing tenders, offers, design and engineering for given discipline
2. Provide technical and fault-finding support for electrical, PLC & Drives systems
3. Develop and assist with review of PLC & Drives specifications, logic tables and FDS documents
4. Preparation of automation project documentation and certification packages
5. Preparation of PLC logic flow/process charts for fault finding purposes
6. Preparation of Factory Acceptance Test procedures, running FAT with client witness
7. Retrieval of PLC & drives programming code from existing systems for the purpose of reverse engineering or upgrading
8. Engineering design and coding related to electrical and PLC systems for onshore and offshore cranes and lifting equipment
9. Preparation of work packs and other documentation
10. Project management activities including all technical and commercial aspects of projects
11. Undertake offshore and onshore surveys and project work scopes
12. Familiarisation with client’s and company's HSEQ policies and procedures
13. Familiarisation with client’s and company Safety policy and the Safety Management System
14. To identify safe and environmentally sound methods of work and systems which identify hazards at each place of work
15. Be familiar with relevant legislation, codes of practice, guidance notes and good industry practice
16. Plan, organise and document client work processes to deliver the required standard with minimum risk to personnel, plant, materials, and the environment
17. Give company personnel and subcontractors precise instruction in order to implement safe methods of work and pre-defined communication lines between client and company
18. Encourage personnel engaged on project/contract to develop an acceptable safety and environmental culture, which encourages near miss and accident reporting
19. To act immediately on any breach of company rules which come to attention and where required report to line manager in relation to those breaches
20. To be alert to any inadequacies of the effectiveness of the management system and to bring such inadequacies to the attention of line management
21. Provide Project Management and engineering support for offshore crane repairs, refurbishment, operation, and maintenance
Skills & Competencies
Work Experience, knowledge, Training etc.:
* Knowledge and experience coding on Siemens systems
* Experience and knowledge of Siemens drive systems – especially S120
* Experience and knowledge of SCADA systems
* Strong managerial and organisational skills
* Capable of working without supervision
* Have a methodical and dynamic approach
* Good communication skills
* Onshore crane and lifting experience preferred
* Good understanding of Ports
* Sound IT skills, MS project, Excel, Word etc
* Minimum 5 years’ experience in design and/or maintenance of electrical, PLC & drives systems
