We have a new live vacancy within our Inquests team for a Paralegal.
Job Title: Paralegal – Actions against the police/inquests
Reporting: Reports to Head of Department – Alexandra Jones
Office Location: Liverpool (Hybrid Working)
Overall Purpose: To provide first-rate legal services to our clients according to their specific needs, ensuring full compliance with policies and procedures laid out by the group and by regulatory bodies. To act as an ambassador for the group at all times, actively promoting its services.
Key Accountabilities:
1. Assist lawyers with their cases by reviewing and drafting legal documents, preparing instructions to Counsel, taking new enquiries, and attending client meetings.
2. Attend court and conferences with lawyers, counsel, and clients, including the civil courts and Coroner’s courts.
3. Chase outstanding tasks and disclosure requests.
4. Update clients on their cases.
5. Administer Legal Aid applications and tasks on the CCMS portal.
6. Attend relevant training courses and team meetings.
7. Undertake any other reasonable tasks that would assist the team and the Firm, including administrative tasks.
8. Responsible for achieving own chargeable hours targets.
Key Experiences:
1. Passionate about human rights, representing individuals against the state, and supporting bereaved families.
2. Good organisational skills.
3. Able to work well as part of a team.
4. Competent use of I.T / case management software.
5. Excellent client care.
6. Previous experience of Legal Aid work preferred.
7. Strong communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
8. Law degree or paralegal experience preferred.
