Generic Therapy Assistant - Cardiorespiratory (Band 3)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic generic therapy assistant to join the Cardiorespiratory therapy team at Airedale General Hospital on a fixed term contract for 10 months.
The post holder will be responsible for activities delegated to them and will work without direct supervision but will have immediate access to a clinician for advice and direction as required.
Generic therapy assistants in the Cardiorespiratory therapy team will work predominantly on the Respiratory, Cardiology and surgical wards. The post holder may also be expected to undertake some community outreach/follow-up in the Airedale, Wharfedale and Craven localities.
Assistants are expected to continually improve their knowledge and skills and develop collaborative working relationships with therapy colleagues to enhance patient care. Duties are varied and include direct patient contact, clerical and housekeeping tasks.
The post holder will be expected to have a level 3 QCF/Diploma/NVQ qualification in health and social care, understand the requirements of rehabilitation, have experience of working with people with a range of health needs and acquired core therapy competencies.
Main duties of the job
* Manage a caseload delegated by clinicians
* Independently undertake basic assessments and interventions relevant to delegated caseload
* Support therapists with complex cases as required
* Work with colleagues to ensure the effective functioning of the team
* Work in partnership with patients, carers, the multi-disciplinary team and wider statutory, private and voluntary sector services.
* Participate in activities to improve the therapy services at AGH.
* Provide support to other team members and students
* Work flexibly according to patient and service needs
In pursuing these duties the post holder will ensure compliance with the NHS Constitution and be familiar with the NHS England Guidance 'Understanding the new NHS.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* GCSEs or equivalent in English and Maths at grade C4 or above.
* Relevant BTEC, QCF or equivalent level III qualification in health and social care
* 5 or above GCSE passes A - D
* Courses with relevance to the job e.g., equipment, dementia
Experience
* Recent, relevant experience of working in acute, mental health or other clinical support worker roles.
* Experience of working with people with complex health needs
* Experience of working with older people who have suffered illness or disability
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary team
* Experience in use of IT applications
* Experience of working in therapy services
* Experience of working in Cardiology/respiratory/surgery.
* Experience of supervising and supporting others.
* Evidence of therapy competencies
Knowledge
* Knowledge of the impact illness and disability have on function
* Knowledge of rehabilitation and discharge planning
* Knowledge of the roles of other professionals and the principles of partnership working
* Knowledge to promote and support equality and value diversity
* Knowledge of health, safety issues
* Knowledge of relevant clinical assessments and treatments
