For more information please visit https://www.objectivemedia.group. The Role Objective Media Group (OMG) is looking for an in-house lawyer to work across its non-scripted slate. The right candidate will be a qualified solicitor or barrister, ideally with 1-3 years relevant post-qualification experience either in private practice or in-house, working with a leading independent producer or broadcaster or similar. The Legal and Business Affairs Executive will be working closely with two Senior Legal and Business Affairs Executives and will be reporting to the Head of Legal & Business Affairs. They must be comfortable working with a high level of autonomy, working in a fast-paced environment and must have the appetite for a challenge, and be able to provide support on multiple non-scripted productions and development projects. This position will be all encompassing dealing with all legal and commercial aspects of the television non-scripted production business including: Key Responsibilities • Drafting and negotiating all forms of agreements across non-scripted productions and developments; • Working closely with OMG’s Senior Legal and Business Affairs Executives in managing multiple productions, across the OMG non-scripted slate; • Working closely with the production execs and management and their production teams on developments and productions, including providing day-to-day assistance and legal support as required, including clearance requests; • Liaising and negotiating with agents, service providers, locations and many other external individuals and entities involved with programme development or production; • Advising on compliance issues including Ofcom and data protection; • Advising on copyright, trade mark and clearance matters; • Advising on talent related matters; • Advising on distribution related matters including international clearances; • Assisting with commercial matters dealt with by OMG’s Commercial Director; • Facilitating the contracts process, including reviewing and redlining contracts and ensuring a quick turnaround from contract to signature; • Assessing and interpreting the rights position on different broadcaster terms of trade and distributor agreements; • Developing and maintaining online and paper filing systems, including contract status reports; • Dealing with occasional contentious matters; • Assisting the Head of Legal and Business Affairs on matters outside the role’s core remit, including scripted production matters The ideal candidate will need to add value to a close knit team and demonstrate the following: • Experience in a legal/business affairs non-scripted television production environment; • Clear and concise written and communication skills; • Ability to review contracts and summarise key terms; • Attention to detail and good drafting skills; • Demonstrate expertise and sound practical experience in contract law, intellectual property (especially copyright and trade mark law) and a working knowledge of data protection; • Ability to interpret and explain complex legal and contractual issues to non-lawyers both internally and externally; • Ability to manage and prioritise a varied work load and to meet deadlines in a competitive, fast moving environment; • Working knowledge of the UK TV sector, broadcaster Terms of Trade and current issues affecting the industry; and • Ability to build relationships with colleagues in other areas of the business, including creative, financial, commercial and central departments.
