The Matron will be a significantly autonomous professional clinical manager, responsible to the Trust for the clinical leadership of Perioperative Services (Preoperative Assessment Unit, Theatres, Day Surgery and Surgical Short Stay Unit). The post holder will have joint strategic responsibility with the Divisional Director of Nursing, Divisional Director and Associate Medical Director to ensure business plans, budgets, workforce and staff development are in place to deliver quality of service for the division and the Trust.
Main duties of the job
The Matron will be an expert practitioner who will advise, work alongside and supervise clinical staff within Perioperative Services in order to support and develop individuals in their day-to-day practice with a focus on the needs of patients and staff.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* Registered Nurse Level 1 or Registered Operating Department Practitioner on an appropriate part of the NMC / HPCP Register.
* Post graduate qualification or equivalent.
* Recognised management qualification or equivalent demonstrable experience.
* Management or Leadership training.
* Degree at Masters or equivalent level or working towards.
Experience
* Highly specialised knowledge of General Surgery and Urology services.
* Experience in General Surgery and Urology setting at a senior level.
* Knowledge of Safeguarding Adults/Children including the Mental Health Act and Mental Capacity Act and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards. Knowledge of quality and service improvement methodologies.
* Knowledge and understanding of current policy and issues in professional practice, compliance, standards and the wider NHS.
* Experience of leading service improvement/change.
* Experience of change management and in writing protocols, guidelines, policies, assessing clinical competencies.
