In this role, you will learn to manufacture and assemble plastic injection & elastomer moulds, press-tools, and other tooling components using various machining and bench fitting techniques. You will set and operate a range of manual and CNC machines, including mills, lathes, and grinders.
You will demonstrate a learning mindset to acquire basic and intermediate skills to meet the requirements of a toolmaker. You will assist senior colleagues and managers to meet quality, delivery, and cost objectives and be receptive to learning opportunities in this role and environment.
You must comply with the company's safety, environmental, and quality policies at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Develop the ability to set & operate CNC and manual/hybrid lathes, grinders, and mills, working independently where possible.
2. Attend technical college one day per week to develop engineering and academic abilities and achieve relevant accreditation.
3. Complete coursework and practical workpieces to a high standard and within deadlines.
4. Develop skills to assemble, disassemble, and inspect mould and press tools.
5. Familiarize and develop hand tool skills relevant to engineering.
6. Learn problem-solving related to repair, maintenance, and modification of tooling.
7. Comply with all health, safety, environmental, and quality policies, procedures, and regulations.
8. Understand and follow process control plans and machine instructions, ensuring proper use of equipment.
9. Read and interpret engineering drawings and learn design principles.
10. Act in accordance with the Company’s Code of Conduct and Guiding Principles.
11. Conduct HSE and Workplace Inspections, report and resolve incidents, and prevent future occurrences.
12. Maintain a clean and tidy work area and proper use of PPE.
13. Show a learning mindset by seeking improvement opportunities to enhance automation and equipment utilization.
14. Support Lean Sigma programs and activities.
15. Contribute to meeting quality, delivery, and cost objectives.
16. Report and escalate issues or irregularities as necessary.
17. Complete any linked courses or training on time and to standard.
18. Perform other duties as assigned.
Basic Qualifications:
* Required: A formal qualification in engineering, technical design, maths, or physics at college level, or significant relevant experience in engineering.
* Desirable: NVQ / BTEC Level 2 or 3 in engineering.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
* Required: Knowledge of mills and lathes, manual and CNC control systems, strong math and technical skills, experience with mechanical systems and hand tools, ability to commute for training, and proficient PC skills.
* Desirable: Experience with engineering machinery, technical drawing, 3D modeling or software like AutoCAD or SolidWorks, knowledge of mould and press tools, and material properties.
