Job Description
Amey is looking for a motivated and experienced Senior Structural Engineer to lead our dynamic team in Scotland.
We have design hubs in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Motherwell, Perth, and Aberdeen together with additional office space in Dumfries, Ayr, Dundee, Nairn and Huntly.
Our Amey Consulting Scotland Team are involved in designing some of the largest civil engineering and associated infrastructure projects across Scotland with cumulative values in excess of £1bn. Amey manages both the Southwest and Northeast Trunk Road Network Management contracts, with the Southwest being awarded in 2020 and the Northeast in 2022. These are 8-year contracts, extendable up to 12 years. In addition to these long-term contracts, we also have a diverse portfolio of major roads, bridges and transportation and civil design projects with Transport Scotland, Local Authorities, and established contractors across the country. The successful candidate will work on a range of high-profile infrastructure projects, including bridges, highways, and civil structures.
Key Responsibilities :
You will contribute to the planning, design, analysis, and construction management of these projects, while ensuring quality and safety standards are met. Lead the delivery of bridge engineering projects, as well as providing support to the wider design team on various design duties including:
• Design production of Structural assessments
• Principal Inspections / Special Inspections
• Feasibility and other technical reports
• Reviewing of design drawings and calculations
• Development of engineering solutions and presentation of engineering options
• Produce and check design concepts, design details, drawings, specifications, contract documents and other technical documents
• Supporting development of junior members of staff
• Drive effective health and safety practices within your team
• Liaise with the Client to ensure solutions that are developed are suitable for buildability and maintainability
• Liaise with Contractors to address challenges during construction. Also potential opportunities supervision and/or project management of projects during construction.
• Prepare technical reports (e.g. Feasibility/Options Reports, Assessment Reports and other technical reports)
• Represent the business stream in multi-disciplined project teams
• Assist in the preparation and monitoring of the budget for projects including the planning, monitoring and reporting of project resources
• Develop and maintain excellent working relationships with the client and other relevant stakeholders
• Represent the business stream in multi-disciplined project teams
• Ensure innovation and best practice is highlighted and adopted where practicable
• Ensure compliance with all relevant technical standards
• Develop safe, sustainable and value for money solutions to meet technical and project requirements.
• Ensure compliance with relevant health, safety and environmental legislation, particularly the CDM regulations and Support the preparation of bids

We want to hear from you if you have:
• Chartered status (or working towards it) with ICE or IStructE held with an appropriate professional body
• Bachelors or Masters degree in Civil / Structural Engineering
• Significant structural engineering experience
• Excellent understanding of structural behaviour and experience in structural analysis software (e.g., AutoCAD, Tekla, Revit).
• Extensive knowledge of relevant codes and standards such as Eurocodes and DMRB
• A demonstrated ability to produce or oversee the production of technically sound engineering solutions, complying with all relevant technical standards and client requirements
• Ability to develop sustainable designs with buildability and maintenance in mind
• Experience in undertaking project related tasks associated with health, safety, and welfare, e.g. Construction (Design and Management) Regulations
• Knowledge of technical governance procedures and how they are applied within a consulting engineering environment
In addition to this, it would be desirable if you have good commercial awareness and knowledge of budgets and programmes to help you hit the ground running, although this is not essential as we will provide you with the required development you need to bring you up to speed.
