We are offering an exciting opportunity for the post of Clinical Nurse Specialist for Lung Cancer within the oncology service and are seeking a motivated professional to join our team. You will be working closely with the oncology team and respiratory teams at The Royal Cornwall Hospital as well as coordinating care within other trusts. This role plays a pivotal part within this service, including meeting the needs of Lung Cancer patients receiving systemic anti-cancer therapy, surgical and palliative care whilst providing seamless holistic care. The role will also include the development of policies, new working relationships and improved patient pathways.
As a role model for cancer nursing practice, you will have skills in clinical and managerial expertise to assess, manage and treat patients, as well as work towards supporting and leading the introduction of new initiatives and pathways. You will have post-registration experience in oncology/palliative care, advanced communication skills, and a non-medical prescribing qualification.
Within this role, you will be required to develop the skills of clinical leadership, manage change, run nurse-led services and clinics, support teaching programmes, and present at all levels (with the support of senior colleagues), with knowledge of managing resources, people and situations effectively, whilst keeping a calm head in a challenging environment.
This is a part-time position (31.5 hours per week).
1. The post holder will be responsible for supporting the Lung Cancer Clinical Nurse Specialist Team in providing a service for the ongoing management of patients within Cornwall suffering from Lung cancer.
2. The post holder will initially be based in the specialty of General Surgery and Cancer.
3. The post holder will be an experienced nurse who uses specialist knowledge and skills to support Lung Cancer patients and their families. They will provide them with emotional and psychological support, information about their disease and treatment pathways, and refer to other agencies, both in and out of Trust, as needed.
4. The post holder will be able to take a relevant history and clinical assessment to develop a management plan and evaluate the progress of that plan within the limitations of their knowledge and skills while being supported by medical and other members of the multi-disciplinary team. They will demonstrate clinical judgement and critical decision-making skills based upon established guidelines.
