Position Description:
We are looking for a Piping Area Lead to work on modularised layout design and leadership for an FPSO located in a deep water extreme operating environment. The individual should have extensive experience in equipment layout, access and piping design using 3D E3D or PDMS CAD design tools. The candidate will be expected to lead the layout development for a number of allocated modules in a senior advisory capacity to piping personnel, project management and client representatives. Additionally, the role entails coordination duties and design lead recommendations with other engineering disciplines such as Structural, Mechanical, Safety, Mechanical Handling and Process. The work will be conducted at various design stages ranging from FEED and onto Detail Design.
The position will require responsibility and a hands-on ability for modelling equipment, pipework, preliminary structure, and access routes. A sound knowledge of stress and support requirements within the routing of pipework is also essential, especially relevant for the design characteristics of an FPSO.
Regular duties will also include review of project documents, preparation, and involvement in presentation of project Model Reviews at multi-discipline level, checking of equipment layouts in FEED or fabrication deliverables during Detail Design.
The position is based in KBR’s Leatherhead Campus. Flexible working can be considered on occasions for certain types of work, however there are expectations that this role will require reasonable office attendance where interaction with the project management team or client is necessary, or for coordination duties at work process management level.
Job Responsibilities:
1. Develop a 3D CAD model for typical equipment layouts in process or utilities modules, access requirements for operations, mechanical handling & egress, preliminary structure as required and pipework routings.
2. Coordinate and lead Piping Designers where involved in the development of modules under your responsibility.
3. Coordinate inputs to the layout from pipe stress engineering and pipe support design as part of
the overall module development.
4. Manage and satisfy client expectations whilst proactively contributing feedback.
5. Protect discipline budget and schedule commitments and consult with the Lead Piping Engineer on management of change.
6. Review and comment on piping and multi-discipline project document reviews.
7. Provide regular input to piping weight management, MTOs and estimating.
8. Communicate effectively with other engineering disciplines.
9. Commit to multi-centre project execution strategies in support and coordination roles.
10. Represent the piping discipline to the client at staged model reviews with the Lead Piping Engineer.
11. Adhere to KBR WAY engineering standards and procedures as appropriate and provide input to their ongoing development and enhancement.
Skills / Experience:
Essential
12. Extensive knowledge of Piping Design and Plant Layout from FEED through to Detail Design.
13. Experience in piping design coordination at Area Lead level with piping and other disciplines.
14. Experience working on FPSO projects for oil processing, gas compression or utility modules.
15. Experience of design coordination with FPSO hull storage and machinery spaces.
16. Good understanding of requirements and influences from stress and supports on FPSO layouts.
17. Fully conversant with Aveva E3D CAD applications (PDMS minimum).
18. Effective communication skills including the ability to present at design reviews.
Desirable
19. Conversant with AutoCAD for basic draughting updates or drawing interpretation.
Qualifications:
20. Desirable - Engineering Degree (BEng)
21. Minimum - Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Plant Process Engineering or HNC/HND in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
