Job summary We are looking for a nurse with a background in acute and/ or rehabilitation care and with a specialist interest and knowledge of stroke. Candidates need to demonstrate an enthusiasm and commitment to delivering and developing the Stroke service across the Health Board. A significant area of practice for the Stroke CNS is covering code stroke and responding as part of an MDT to code stroke calls within the Emergency and Admissions Unit at University Hospital of Wales to ensure timely investigation and treatment in line with evidence based guidance. The post holder will provide education and support to people who have suffered from a stroke as well supporting other healthcare professionals, whilst being actively engaged in service improvement initiatives. You will be required to work autonomously but will be fully supported to develop within your role as a specialist nurse, while working closely with members of the Multi Disciplinary Team. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will work alongside the Stroke Consultants and wider multidisciplinary team to provide expert care to patients across the stroke pathway. The post holder will be amongst the first practitioners to assess stroke patients, presenting to the Emergency Department or receiving inter-hospital referrals, for potentially lifesaving Thrombolysis or Thrombectomy treatment. The post holder will provide specialist educational support to a range of healthcare professionals, ensuring the most up to date stroke guidelines are followed.
