A vacancy has arisen for a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry to work across multiple sites covering South Tyneside, Sunderland, and Gateshead. This is an exciting opportunity for someone to apply their specialist dental knowledge and skills in the provision of comprehensive oral care for patients with complex special needs, including treatment under sedation and general anaesthesia.
Duties will include the provision of high-quality dental care for special care patients referred to the service.
Working within a large and supportive dental team, the post holder will provide clinical leadership in special care dentistry as well as support to, and training and mentoring of staff. They will contribute to the strategic direction of the service.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work 8 sessions per week and be expected to meet the competencies for a Band C dentist SCD.
You must be fully registered with the UK General Dental Council as a Specialist in Special Care Dentistry, eligible for the National Dental Performers List without restrictions, and have a postgraduate qualification in a relevant area of practice.
You will be able to demonstrate extensive clinical experience, leadership skills, and have evidence in a portfolio of continuing professional development.
You must also have excellent communication skills and be sensitive to the needs of relevant patient groups. Sharing expertise through supporting and mentoring colleagues will help drive the special care service forward.

Job responsibilities
To provide high-quality specialist dental care particularly for priority groups which is centred on evidence-based practice and clinical effectiveness.
To plan and coordinate services in conjunction with the Service Lead and Senior team.
To provide professional and operational leadership for the South Tyneside and Sunderland Foundation Trust (STSFT) Community Dental Service (CDS).
To deputise for the CDS Clinical lead as required.

Qualifications

* Full registration with the UK General Dental Council.
* Registration as a specialist in special care dentistry.
* Eligible for the National Dental Performers List (NHS England) without restrictions.
Experience
* Proven track record in the provision of dental care.
* Significant experience in sedation.
* Significant experience in working with those who are medically compromised and special needs groups.
* Competence in simple minor oral surgery procedures.
* Experience in community dentistry.
* Experience of working within an NHS dental contract.
* Experience in teaching.
* Skills in clinical audit and/or research.
