Materials NDE Engineer - Manufacturing
Full-Time
Derby/Hybrid (3 days/week in the office)
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Engineer - Manufacturing to join our team in Derby.
As a NDE Engineer – Manufacturing, you will use your knowledge and expertise in the development and application of NDT Techniques across the whole product lifecycle. The essential purpose is to maintain and manage an acceptable risk in the NDT Supply Chain of Rolls-Royce by performing process auditing and consultancy/approval in production, as well as technology development for efficiency, quality, and cost goals.

You will be part of our NDE Laboratory, which is part of the Global Materials Engineering function under Manufacturing Engineering and Materials organisation for Engineering, Technology & Safety (ET&S). The organisation supports Civil Aerospace, Business Aviation, and Defence Aerospace. The NDE Laboratory covers the full lifecycle of Rolls-Royce engine products from development, manufacture to service. As part of the team, we also provide advice and guidance on NDE matters to other engineering disciplines.

What you will be doing:
You’ll analyse factual information from multiple sources and identify effective solutions applying your technical knowledge, expertise, and engineering judgement. You will also:
1. Provide technical support and consultancy to product development for Future Programmes.
2. Support, maintain, and improve our internal and external supply chain for NDE processes.
3. Audit and risk assess our external supply chain to our NDT procedures and processes.
4. Represent the company with suppliers and customers.
5. Actively promote, encourage, and support identification and implementation of continuous improvement.
6. Be part of the global NDE organisation, internally and externally, to drive changes and advancement.
7. Mentor NDT Degree Apprentices, from first year to completion of the scheme.

To be successful in this role, we are looking for someone who is/has:
1. Relevant experience and knowledge in associated methods. Candidates with NDT expertise in other methods, sectors, or areas are also encouraged to apply.
2. A degree-level qualification or above in a relevant technical discipline (e.g., NDE, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics), or equivalent technical capability based on experience.
3. The ability to solve problems through evaluative judgements. Analyse factual information from multiple sources, interpret results, and identify effective solutions by applying their own technical knowledge, expertise, and engineering judgement.
4. A team contributor but also capable of working independently.
5. It’s desirable that you have:
1. A professional qualification (e.g., Level 3 or working towards Level 3) in relevant NDE methods (e.g., Radiography, Immersion Ultrasonics);
2. Working experience in an Aerospace manufacturing environment;
3. Chartered status or other similar accreditation.
