Location: Wolverhampton
Salary: A GBP 32,000 - A GBP 40,000 per annum (depending on experience)
The Role
Working as a Children’s Residential Support Worker, you will join an established experienced care team. It is an energetic and varied role supporting and mentoring children and young people with learning disabilities (LD) and emotional and behavioural difficulties (EBD) who can present challenging behaviour. You will bring experience of working in special educational needs (SEN) settings to support children and young people in care, with special educational needs and disability (SEND).
Following a thorough induction and training programme, your duties will include:
* Supporting, mentoring and educating children in day-to-day activities to develop their emotional and social needs
* Developing personal and practical skills to enhance independent living
* Positive engagement to encourage children and young adults in their development
* Reporting and recording key aspects of care and developing your professional skills as part of ongoing development
* Managing complex and challenging behaviour
* Support with engagement in activities
* Personal care
* Organising and participating in appropriate activities
* Domestic duties
* Cooking and shopping
* Transporting to appointments and activities
* General upkeep and maintenance of the home
* Fulfil sleep-in duties in accordance with the agreed rota by the home manager.
Key SEND Skills
* Good knowledge and understanding of learning disabilities, additional needs, autism, and social communication needs for children and young people
* Promote and support the development of creative learning activities for children with additional needs
* SEN experience and able to use effective and creative resources to plan and support identified progress of children and young people with SEN needs
* Use effective resources to promote effective communication for both verbal and nonverbal children and young people
Skills And Qualifications
* Demonstrate an ability to cope with emotionally challenging situations and to act appropriately under pressure
* Good written and verbal communication skills
* Basic computer skills
* Domestic housekeeping skills
* Awareness of Equal Opportunities and Anti-Discriminatory practice
* Basic understanding of the principles of childcare legislation
* Experience of working with children/young people (Desirable)
* Over 21 years of age
