Job Description:
Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.
It’s not every job where you make a difference for the people of Scotland every day. Behind every glass of clean water, there’s a team of engineers, samplers, and surveyors—people who need vehicles to do their jobs.
We’re looking for 2 Operational Specialists in Health & Safety to work on Scottish Water’s £900 million per year Capital Investment Programme, with one based in the North of Scotland and the other in the Central Belt.
What you’ll do
You’ll be at the heart of improving Health & Safety (H&S) performance, working closely with internal stakeholders and construction partners to foster a strong, positive H&S culture. You’ll help shape projects across mainland Scotland and nearby island communities, providing critical H&S services and support.
You’ll provide expert, cost-effective H&S advice, coaching, and guidance, interpreting legislation, codes of practice, and industry standards to ensure legal compliance and high standards. You’ll oversee construction projects within our Capital Investment Programme, involving various sizes and complexities, and work with joint ventures and regional contractors.
You’ll ensure Scottish Water meets its responsibilities under the Construction Design & Management (CDM) Regulations, build stakeholder relationships, lead safety performance improvements, investigate incidents, and contribute to safety initiatives like HAZOPs and safety analyses.
What you’ll need
You should have knowledge of the construction or utility industry, especially in project and risk management, and understanding of H&S legislation like CDM Regulations. A NEBOSH General or Construction Certificate is required, and a NEBOSH Diploma or IOSH membership is a plus but not essential.
You need decision-making skills, proficiency in Microsoft Office, and a desire for personal development. Skills in delivering engaging presentations and influencing stakeholders are important.
For the North Scotland role, being based near Inverness, Tay, Perth, Kinross, Caithness, or Aberdeen is ideal.
Looking out for you
We support work-life balance with 38 days of holiday, flexible working, family-friendly policies, a pension, life assurance, annual bonuses, and rewards like SW Splash.
The not-so-small print
This is a Grade 6 role with a starting salary of £33,560, progressing to £44,140. The role moves to a 35-hour week in November 2024. Applications close midnight on 14th October, with interviews in the week of 21st October.
Offers are conditional pending pre-employment screening, including references and background checks.
A few final things worth knowing…
If you don’t meet all criteria, apply anyway! We value learning and development and accommodate diverse needs and circumstances, including disabilities and life events. Candidates must be Scottish taxpayers and ideally live in Scotland or move within three months of joining. Records of applicants inactive for over a year will be deleted automatically.
