The Opportunity:
Laing O'Rourke have an opportunity for a Civil Engineering Assistant Design Manager to join the team on our Old Oak Common project in North West London. A Laing O'Rourke Assistant Design Manager ensures that all design information is reviewed and delivered in line with the design management procedures for completeness and compliance with contractual obligations, including factors such as programme, buildability, safety, maintenance and technical suitability. In addition, the Design Manager oversees the production, control and distribution of design information at different project stages and ensures regular progress reporting of the design is in place.
What will the role look like?
* Supporting our consultant teams to maximise their effectiveness and value optimisation in the provision of effective integrated design solutions that meet our clients' business needs (strategies and budgets).
* Maximising the effectiveness of consultant relationships.
* Reviewing design delivery to enhance quality of solutions and efficiency of design, procurement, manufacturing, assembly, commissioning and handover of total engineering excellent solutions for our clients.
* Supporting our consultants in adopting LOR's design processes, deliver with rigour and quality project management processes and to ensure effective collaboration throughout the supply chain (using appropriate tools for this including, but not limited to, BIM/Digital Engineering).
* Capturing business knowledge and capability enabling continuous improvement, innovation and improved capability towards an Engineering Enterprise.

* Design optimisation
* Design for Manufacture and Assembly
* Managing consultancies
* Information and Change Control
* Design compliance
What skills & experience are we looking for?
* First degree in Civil or Geotechnical Engineering. Other appropriate construction related qualification plus design related experience.
* Approx 5 years' experience. Different procurement routes, different sector experience. Experience end to end in managing design - from concept to handover.
