Job overview
We are currently looking to recruit a Porter working 37.5 hours per week over 5 days out of 7 based at The Royal Albert Edward Infirmary.
The post holder being expected to provide cover for colleagues during periods of absence.
Based at the above site and providing an efficient day-to-day Portering service for patients, service users transferring patients, and all manner of stock items to and from all departments across the site.
Portering Services provides a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week service across all trust sites.
The successful candidates will have good numeracy and communication skills, be reliable workers, and be flexible in their availability to work all manner of shifts in any 24-hour period.
Previous experience of working in a similar environment would be beneficial, but full training will be provided.
This role requires the post holder to work in areas that are used for the care of Coronavirus (Covid-19) positive patients.
Candidates are required to show their original qualification certificates to the interview panel.

Main duties of the job
As a member of the site porter team, you will undertake a wide range of duties as directed by the Porter Supervisors / Hotel Services Officers.
Providing an efficient day-to-day Portering service for patients, service users transferring patients, and all manner of stock items to and from all departments across the site.
To support the provision of clinical services throughout the Trust, undertaking the movement of patients, goods, and waste as required. Using vehicles, powered movers, and equipment as directed.
Portering Services provides a 24-hour, 7-day-a-week service across all trust sites.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Key results from the job holder
As a member of the site porter team, you will undertake duties as directed by the Porter Supervisors / Hotel Services Managers.
You are required to undertake the movement of patients and goods as required, using vehicles, powered movers, and equipment as directed.
Support clinical services to Wards and Departments.
Planning and Organisational Duties
* Undertake daily tasks as requested by Porter Supervisor, Wards, and Departments.
* Move patients, including deceased, by bed, chair, or trolley.
* Move goods such as mail, medical gases, pharmacy items, samples, dirty linen, and waste.
* Perform duties according to Department Operational Policies, methods, and standards.
* Use of equipment and machinery as directed.
* Use of electrical/conventional vehicles as directed.
Communications and Key Working Relationships
* Adopt a flexible approach when undertaking Porter duties.
* Respond promptly to radio or bleep calls.
* Communicate routinely with patients, hospital staff, and the public.
* Follow Trust and Local procedures.
Responsibility for Finance
* Secure buildings as required.
* Keep personal equipment secure, e.g., bleeps/radios.
* Follow Trust and Local procedures.

* Mentor new starters on duties.
