About the Opportunity We are currently recruiting Safety Case Engineers across all levels from entry to principal to join our Safety Case team within our decommissioning and radioactive waste management business. The role can be based at Harwell, London, Warrington Scrabster and Westlakes, and other locations will also be considered. You will join a multi-disciplinary business that delivers a range of projects on behalf of both UK and international customers. The decommissioning and radioactive waste management business provides an exciting mixture of consultancy and engineering projects, along with delivery of challenging decommissioning related EPC projects, to major clients in the UK across both the civil nuclear and defence industries. Overseas, we are delivering similarly interesting and exciting projects for clients in the Nordics, Central and Eastern Europe and Japan. The primary focus of our Safety Case Team is the provision of safety analysis and safety case support to waste management and decommissioning projects, supporting licensees, future licensees, waste management organisations and regulators. Alongside this, there are opportunities to support clients across the full Nuclear Lifecycle, including prospective licensees, reactor designers and vendors; nuclear site operators; industry bodies and regulators; and research institutions. The role may require travel to other sites to facilitate efficient and effective delivery. Key Responsibilities: As a Safety Case Engineer, you will also be responsible for implementing Safety Case Procedures and maintaining the required standards of technical quality. You will be supporting nuclear clients providing Nuclear Safety Case support through the full life cycle including: - Participating in hazard identification studies (e.g. HAZIDs, HAZOPs, SWIFTs). - Supporting the preparation of qualitative and quantitative risk assessments (e.g. FTAs, FMEA, ETA, QRA). - Preparation of safety case documentation and reports. - Preparing safety case strategy reports. - Preparing technical reports. - Degree qualified or equivalent in a scientific or engineering discipline. - Good communication skills and ability to articulate information. - Experience in preparing technical reports. - Self-starter with a professional leadership approach and a technical background. - An ability to make good engineering judgement whilst acknowledging limitations of knowledge. It would be advantageous to have one of more of the following: - Understanding of Safety Assessment Principles and their role and application to modern standards safety case preparation. - Knowledge and experience in the development of safety case documentation in the nuclear industry or another highly regulated industry. - Ability to interface and liaise with key client and internal stakeholders. - For more senior roles, successful delivery of safety cases deliverables on complex projects and development of junior staff.
