Job summary
We are looking for an Ophthalmic Assistant to join our busy ophthalmology team in the Outpatient Department. The Outpatient Department provides services for a variety of specialties including orthopaedics, ophthalmic, urology, obstetrics-gynaecology, dermatology, plastics, rheumatology, neurology.
Main duties of the job
These role would ideally suit an experienced Ophthalmic Technician who can support our consultant body and patients by performing a range of scans including OCT, Topography, Biometry, Visual Fields, Visual Acuities and pressures. We have recently expanded the service and invested in new equipment to be able to offer a dedicated service. We also perform procedures within the department including chalazions and blepharoplasties in our minor procedures suite.

Job responsibilities
1. To ensure documentation is completed accurately and within agreed timescales using Hospital approved documentation, in line with NMC and Hospital guidelines.
2. To ensure the provision of excellent, evidence based nursing care for patients.
3. Ensure that each patient is assessed, and that their care is planned, implemented and evaluated, and that this is accurately documented.
4. Ensure the provision of a welcoming, caring and safe environment for patients and their families.
5. To communicate complex and sensitive information effectively to patients, care's and other staff, overcoming any barriers to understanding and providing support during distressing or emotional events.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
6. Extensive experience as a Staff Nurse in a similar healthcare environment
7. Excellent people skills, good communication and observation ability
8. To have sound knowledge and experience within the various clinical specialties
9. Demonstrable experience in mentoring junior staff
Desirable
10. Experience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team
11. Adhere to the Code of Conduct for Nursing and the Data Protection Act
12. Ability to work under pressure and with high volumes of work during peak times
