Job Introduction The BBC Proms is the biggest classical music festival in the world. We run over 100 live events over 2 months in the summer at the Royal Albert Hall in London and venues around the UK. Nearly everything we do is broadcast across BBC Radio, TV and online. We are a creative, innovative festival that connects with audiences across the UK and across the globe. You would be part of a dynamic team that looks after Live Events, Marketing, Learning, Communications, Publications and Business. The BBC has 5 professional orchestras, two choruses and a professional choir, the BBC Singers. We support the BBC Symphony Orchestra & Chorus, BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Singers in their Learning work. Working with such a broad range of groups means you are just as likely to be working with Radio 2 and top pop talent with the BBC CO, as you are with Radio 3 on exciting new music commissions and projects with the BBC Symphony or BBC Singers. You will also work closely with the BBC Philharmonic, BBC National Orchestra of Wales and BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. As part of the BBC's move to a new, purpose built music studio at East Bank on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Stratford, our team are responsible for developing partnerships and community engagement programmes that connect with our new local community and deliver on the BBC's strategic objectives. The Role The Senior Learning Manager is responsible for the Learning programmes of the BBC Proms, BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Concert Orchestra and BBC Singers. In line with the BBC's strategic objectives and the needs of music education in the UK, the programme aims to inspire a love of orchestral and choral music for the widest possible audience - we work with people on all kinds of musical journeys and prioritise working with those who may not see an obvious pathway into music as a listener, performer or creator. Our programme includes the national education and talent schemes BBC Young Composer, BBC Open Music and BBC Ten Pieces, as well as work with targeted communities and partners across the UK. You will be part of the BBC Proms and London Orchestras, Learning, Marketing, and Publications team, reporting to the Head of Public Engagement, BBC Proms and London Orchestras and Choirs. Main Responsibilities We're looking for a Senior Learning Manager to lead this learning team. This role will give you the opportunity to devise and lead on projects that make the most of the BBC, working with a network of teams including Radio & Music, Children's & Education, Early Careers, Talent Acquisition and Partnerships. You'll also have the opportunity to work in collaboration with external arts and cultural organisations from across the UK. Our audiences are at the heart of what we do and you'll be working strategically to deliver digital and live events and creative participatory work that engage communities, schools and musicians of all abilities with the BBC. As well as face to face delivery there is the potential to reach millions through our BBC platforms including BBC Sounds and BBC iPlayer. With a combination of music learning expertise, creative thinking, extensive project management experience, change management, partnership working and experience of working with professional musicians, you will be responsible for managing the strategic planning and delivery of this broad programme. You will lead a team of seven to develop the vision and programme for these areas, as well as the national programmes, BBC Open Music and BBC Young Composer. You will part of the Proms Senior Management team, devising and delivering the Proms learning programme, including working with the artistic planning and live events teams on family and Relaxed concerts. You will work with the Senior Management Teams of the BBC Symphony Orchestra, BBC Symphony Chorus and BBC Singers to deliver on their programmes. You will develop relationships with East Bank Partners on the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park and with communities in the four growth borough leading on developing a community engagement strategy in response to strategic objectives. You will work on our programmes across the UK including Proms and BBC Concert Orchestra in Nottingham. Are you the right candidate? We're looking for someone with enthusiasm for music and live events who is committed to creating inclusive opportunities for people of all backgrounds to participate in arts and culture. You will be able to think strategically and make long term plans. You will be able to originate and develop creative ideas which engage diverse audiences. You'll be able to lead and motivate others and work collaboratively with teams to turn challenging situations into practical solutions. You will bring a creative, imaginative and innovative approach to reaching audiences through live and digital platforms.
