An exciting opportunity has arisen to join our Complementary team at Hayward House. We are a small team of therapists who work closely within a highly committed specialist palliative care team.
Hayward house is a specialist palliative care unit based in the city hospital campus. We are looking to recruit an experienced Complementary therapist to join our existing team in our purpose built complementary therapy unit. You will be passionate about patient centred care and be able to respond sensitively to patient and carers needs.
You will be responsible for your own caseload and supporting the wider MDT across both inpatient and outpatient services, this will include working in small groups and day therapy and contributing to ongoing development & evaluation of the services provided
• To work with individuals to improve their quality of life in agreement with them, their families and carers.
• To provide complementary therapies to improve management of symptoms that may have a physical, social, spiritual or psychological cause.
• To provide complementary for families and carers.
• To liaise closely with the primary health care team and other agencies to ensure that the individual’s family and carers needs are met and to promote continuity of care.

WORKING CONDITIONS
The post holder must be able to:
Work within unpleasant clinical working conditions (for example exposure to body fluids).
Concentrate in an intense and sometimes noisy environment.
Cope with potentially violent and threatening situations
Fulfil Trust health and Safety policies and procedures when performing risk associated procedures including dealing with hazardous substances
Role within Complementary Therapy
• Provide hands-on complementary therapies
• Assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual programmes of therapy liaising alongside the patient, their representatives, clinical team members and other professionals.
• Share knowledge and expertise with other staff through formal and informal conversations
• Ensure that all treatments are carried out in line with Trust policies
• Address issues of quality, training, audit, research and development in complementary therapies and to co-ordinate the introduction of other therapies.
Qualifications and Skills
• Professionally qualified in a range of complementary therapies with a significant post registration experience.
• Relevant qualifications such as VCTC, ITEC or City and Guilds or equivalent.
• Holds a professional practitioner indemnity insurance.
• Can provide evidence of continual professional development.
• Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally.
• Requires an adaptable and flexible approach to meet with the needs of the service.
• Has an understanding of the principles of palliative care.
• Able to participate in the development of complementary therapies.
