An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional individual to join us as our Head of Nursing. We are looking for someone who can drive the strategic quality assurance framework and who shares our vision to be trusted to provide consistently outstanding care and exemplary services to our patients.
The successful post holder will have proven leadership skills and will develop effective systems that provide assurance of good quality patient care. We are seeking someone who will take a facilitative and empowering approach, nurturing creativity and leading others to adopt best practice throughout the Trust to support consistent delivery of fundamental nursing care.
Working collaboratively with senior nurses and other key stakeholders, the successful candidate will play a key role in the development and delivery of excellent fundamental nursing care practice.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will provide professional leadership and management to a clearly defined area of staff including recruitment, appraisal, continual professional development and disciplinary matters in order to provide a patient focused service. Accountable for service delivery, including clinical and ESHT Essential Care Standards, management of clinical risk and complaints - liaising with other agencies as appropriate and playing a pro-active role in quality improvement. Responsible for the Matrons, Heads of departments and Specialist Nurses in specified areas and setting their objectives. Responsible for nursing budgets and effective management of resources. Implement agreed areas of quality/service development and improvement relating to nursing in accordance to national recommendations and standards.

Qualifications
Essential
* Educated to degree level in relevant subject or equivalent level of experience of working at a similar level in specialist area
* Current Nursing and Midwifery Council Registration
* Proven leadership experience.
* Significant evidence of continued professional development to masters level or equivalent
* Demonstrated expertise at a senior level in a Healthcare environment
Desirable
* Experience and/or understanding of the wider Health Economy
* Experience of operating in and delivering priorities in a partnership environment
Experience
Essential
* Management experience at senior level in the NHS or other public healthcare related industry
* Demonstrates good understanding of professional nursing and corporate issues including governance and compliance
* Evidence of delivery and holding others to account
* Experience in leading a change initiative
* Significant staff management experience, including appraisal, recruitment and personal development
* Experience of motivating and inspiring staff to work together to achieve a common objective
* Significant budget management experience, including strong financial control skills, and the ability to design and deliver significant and potentially complex cost improvement initiatives
